R6 II Screen Info Option 6?

Hi all,

Can anyone with an R6II tell me whether it is possible to have a black screen from pressing the info button on the R6 II please?

This is an option since a firmware update with the R5, but it was left out the R6, forcing many users to find a workaround, including simply closing the screen which I have done.

Closing the screen is not ideal for me, so does anyone know if the option is there on the R6 II?

Thanks.

Black screen on the rear screen? When the lens cap is on? Mine is not entirely black because I can see the focus point and the rule of third grid lines (my choice). Screen of the scene you are photographing (same on the EVF) when the lens is off? Yes, it's one of the five options.

No, it doesn't have this option. R5 and R3 have it.

It is an annoyance because if you just set EVF only, the menu doesn’t show on the LCD.

Funny (Canon) way to differentiate the lines.

Although it has power off mapped to a button, which the r5 doesn’t have. When I’m shooting intermittently, I will just map M.fn to power off the R6II and not worry about LCD or power. Half press the shutter and its back.

Re: R6 II Screen Info Option 6?

Hi, I mean I don't want to see Live View or q menu at all unless I press the info button. I want an analogue exerience so I don't accidentally use the rear screen to compose, as I aways enjoy the process more and compose better with evf only, not rear screen. I only want rear screen available for family selfies, image review and using touch and drag af.

I can do this on my R6 only if I allocate a button to turning on/off the screen, which wastes a custom button and adds complexity for other users, or simply close the screen.

With you saying 'one of the five options' I think the 6th option has been reserved for the R5 and R5 II, which is super annoying, as I want the OVF simulation experience of the R6 II, the R3 is too big for me and the R5 II is MIA and will be v expensive...

Thank you. That's super annoying though. Totally feel like ditching Canon in protest, although that is probably irrational and whimsical...:)

Re: R6 II Screen Info Option 6?

Thanks. When you say you map power off to a button, do you mean LCD power off, or whole camera power off/sleep? Or does it turn off EVF and LCD both?

So annoying Canon. Why do I need to spend an extra $1000 or more to have an option to turn off the rear LCD like a DSLR?

There are two options, one to turn off camera, and one to turn off LCD. You can also choose to switch between LCD and EVF.

Actually between the r6ii and the r5, the r5 is behind in options such as tracking in all af area etc. the only thing r6ii is missing in my opinion is the LCD off option and the ability to change exposure modes using button, but thats because of the exposure dial, so cant be helped. When the rumored r5 firmware update comes we shall see.

The only way is to set the "Screen/viewfinder display" to either screen or viewfinder and set a custom button to "Switch between VF/screen". You will always have to hit that button to turn on the rear screen, hitting menu, play, etc. will not turn on the screen.

I wish R6 and R6II had this option.

Strange thing is that when you close the LCD, the reaction of the EVF (to switch on and off) is noticeably slower. I cant understand why

It doesn’t have it. My suggestion to you is to cycle your info button to the shooting settings screen. That way you won’t see the image, which addresses your issue of not wanting to see the composition. It’s also mostly dark so not too distracting, and you can still see the review (if you’ve set it to review) on the LCD without having to re-open it from closed. I have my RP and R10 set like this, and my R5 on blank screen, and the difference doesn’t bother me unduly.

Re: R6 II Screen Info Option 6?

Thanks all.

Unfortunately I really don't like looking at the q menu screen, it looks too busy and for some weird reason amateurish or overly digital. I think I still prefer the process of a DSLR without live view on unless I ask for it.

Really disappointing. I would have bought the R6II just to get the OVF viewfinder and better af.

I don't really want to turn off the screen completely as I want the kids to be able to use it for selfies, and don't want to allocate a button for it, as I have no spare buttons, and why should I when the info button is already supposed to toggle between lcd states. But twisting it round is annoying as no touch and drag af...

I am either going to wait for the R5II and spend more money than I should, or look elsewhere. I was interested in the R8 and R50 as an extra small camera too, but I expect they will also lack this option. Seems so stupid.

Flip the screen in toward the body.  You're welcome!

You can have the info screen but have it so it black out when your eye is to the viewfinder. You can also have the camera go into standby after a few seconds so the rear screen goes black. The R6II and R7 wake up almost instantly when you touch the shutter button so it is not really an issue most of the time and saves a lot of battery.
