X-Pro3 Prices following the X100V...
2

I bought my X-Pro3 a little over a month ago. It was just under the MSRP due to a small discount coupon I had.

I happened to notice today that the stock is out at most of the reputable places I use. So I checked Amazon and sure enough the prices have shot up.

(Note - these are used camera prices!)

Wow that is almost $500 more, purchased new, than I paid when it first came out. This is insane!

This is just a trend, just lazy tik tokers/millennials/ scalpers trying to make a buck from a popular product. I’d say don’t give them the pleasure and buy another model so hopefully they will lose their money once the new model comes out and nobody wants to buy their overpriced stock.

While the price is high.  You cropped the picture to create a narrative.  There is only 1 camera listed  as used and shipped and sold from a Japanese seller.

TBH this has always been par for the course on Amazon, when a camera is discontinued the price always shoots up. I’d be amazed if anyone actually pays these prices, but who knows.

Will be interesting to see what happens at the rumoured April event - if Fuji announce or hint at an X-Pro4 you can expect the XP3 prices to start sliding. If they’re silent on the issue (leaving open the possibility that there won’t be one) they may continue to rise further.

Amazon Marketplace and eBay always have some wild prices on all sorts of things.

In the UK used X-Pro3s from retailers and commercial resellers are regularly running at £1200-1400, nothing crazy at all.

The tik tokers already have it… and I’m sure scalping is not a generational thing.  It’s existed forever.

First of all there is no narrative - that's the view you get from the mobile site. I posted it because I found it mildly interesting.

But because this is the Internet where all discussions must devolve into an argument (lol)...there appears to be a few buying options, and only one indicates Japan.

So my only point is that I find it interesting that as stock decreases the prices of the X-Pro3 cameras are rising - since I pretty much dismissed it when it happened to the X100V as something related to that camera's retro-styling and it's popularity with a "younger demographic".

Re: X-Pro3 Prices following the X100V...

I agree, maybe it's also a regional thing. For example I just checked my trusted camera store for Fujifilm, and they have the standard "Black" X-Pro3 in stock for €1899. Now 1899 isn't cheap, for example I got mine for €1629, launch MSRP was €1799 and I think sometime last year Fujifilm increased the MSRP of the XP to the mentioned €1899. Some other stores also have them in stock for the same price and a large electronic retailer has them readily available for €1909.

In addition I had a quick look over at MPB Germany and they have almost a dozen X-Pro3 in stock, ranging from €1549 to €1589. Switched over to MPB US and they were a lot more limited, having only six "Dura" models in stock, which are listed "Like new" for $1949.

Yep, Ebay and Amazon can be all over the place, but it just seemed "less wild" a few weeks ago.

It doesn’t take much research on social media to see that there are various hot photography items on social media. Leicas in general, Contax in general, higher end film p&s cameras, film cameras in general, low megapixel digital p&s cameras from the early years and now Fuji cameras. Even older Fujis. And the Fujis that aren’t in stock in various location become even more desirable. People like things that look good and/or retro and that are exclusive especially when the product they are selling is themselves.

So you're saying this is a common occurrence - stock gets low and prices for used gear rises beyond the original MSRP for other camera makers?

I'm honestly asking, because I hadn't noticed it before the X100V.

Just in Fuji and Leica have I seen it happen.  AND only recently for Fuji with the X100V, X-Pro3 and X-E4.  However, only in some places in the world.  For instance here in Chile, it is not happening.  We are used to things being out of stock and just waiting.

Another thing though is that used Fuji camera prices have went up a few hundred as well in the last year.  Not down, but up...even for 10 year old models.  Things like the X70 and XF10 go for above MSRP right now too...and they are many years old.  Fujifilm will have to take this into account in the future for their more niche products.  They have to be paying attention.

I saw it with Leica many years ago...around the release of the M9.  Lens prices got stupid due to shortage of supply.  I had a friend who would make thousands over MSRP on the Noctilux .95 each time he sold them.  He simply put him self on many waiting lists and when he was called, spend the $10,000 and flipped it soon after for thousands more.

I'm honestly asking, because I hadn't noticed it before the X100V.

If you wanted to buy a used car in the last couple of years you would have witnessed this phenomenon. Due to parts shortages, there were long waits for any new vehicle, and prices for used stock, even with thousands of miles on the clock, were close to and exceeded the retail price. People were gaming this by ordering and reselling at a profit, especially on prestige models.

Re: X-Pro3 Prices following the X100V...

I've been following this fuji social media frenzy with interest, as after having my beat-up little x20, I was looking to jump into the x-mount system as my dslr's were spending more and more time on the shelf due to their weight.

I also liked the idea of slowing down and using manual lenses as well, however the prices being asked for even older gear has been ludicrous.

I have bided my time though and sure enough I think the craze may have peaked and be on the way back down(for older models at least).....I just treated myself to a e-x1 at a decent price on ebay, so I think prices may hopefully be returning to sensible levels....

Bob.

Used prices in general

not directly X-Pro3 and X100V but I was shocked when I saw the used prices of the 16-80mm at mbp (Europe). They were always around 450€ für very good condition even this year january. Now the are at 379€ for very good condition. Almost 100€ less!

Actually those are all good examples...it just didn't occur to me that it would happen to Fujifilm cameras. So maybe this will be the new normal for awhile.

Sad but true.

Scalpers are making big bucks thanks to Fuji's decision to produce as few X-Pro, X100V, and XE4s as possible.
If people keep paying 2X retail value for those cameras, Fuji will keep the ball rolling and won't release any new model soon. Why should they when the market is crazy for their current offerings?

I bet there won't be an X100VI, XPRO4, or XE5 at least for another year.
