Canon has actually managed to diminish my love of photography.

Unless you have loads of time and money sitting around, the switch from EF to RF has been mostly a time and dollar suck without really much payback. I'm not talking about the shift to mirrorless. That has been good. But the concomitant shift to RF lenses has been, on whole, just a pain in the neck and a pain in the wallet.

I'm at the point where just saying no is quite appealing.

I'm not buying anymore RF lenses, and Canon's decision to shut out third party lenses has solidified my decision.

So I'm using the EF lenses still. It sucks to use these with an adapter, but the RF versions are just too expensive, and they don't offer enough to make the expenditure worthwhile.

Sorry to hear that

For me it was the exact opposite.  All of my EF lenses worked better than ever when I moved to RF mount so I never felt any need to move to an RF variant unless it brought me additional benefit.  Meanwhile my (*many*) existing EF lenses were more enjoyable than ever.  As a result I never felt any anxiety or pressure to adopt RF equivalents of the already excellent EF lenses I had.

The first RF lens I bought was the RF24-105/4LIS and it was astonishingly fast at AF while delivering excellent IQ all around.  It felt almost relaxing to choose only RF lenses that would expand my experience and make it more satisfying.  The RF28-70/2L was another one that was a joy to add because it brought a capability that was next level vs prior event zooms solutions.

I'm at the point where just saying no is quite appealing.

The Canon RF system has created the best mount transition that has ever been delivered in the ILC world.  Virtually every lens from the prior mount works better with the adapter and new mount than it did previously and the adapters provide rock solid mechanical connection. Your sticking with EF lenses you love makes a lot of sense.

Have others decided to keep using their EF lenses on RF mount cameras? I have decided so far, might for a long time. I'm not sure I can justify the price for slight increase in focus accuracy and photo quality.

I primarily use 70-200 IS II 2.8, 24-70 II 2.8, 135mm 2.0. I mostly shoot events where IS does not help. I might even buy more EF lenses.

For people that have upgraded these lenses from EF to RF:

  • Did you notice increase focus accuracy?
  • Notice increase in photo quality?
  • Have any other comments?

Thanks,

My favorite RF lens is not even the topnotch one, it's the RF24mm f/1.8 IS STM. Other than that, I am EF lenses that work like a dream on my R6Mii and R7, especially the EF50mm 1.2, the EF100-400mm 2, and the EF16-35mm.

Do I wish there are native RF equivalents in the same price range? Of course. Until then, the EF lenses gets the job done.

I haven't found a real need yet to buy any RF lenses. I have an adapter permanently mounted to my three R bodies, so that transition has been painless. I'm not under any pressure to buy RF lenses, although that 70-200 is very alluring.

I went through the horrendous big bang transition from FD to EF that left my FD lens collection completely unusable, so I'm playing the tiniest violin in the world in sympathy for you now.

So why not stay with DSLRs - and enjoy just as before the mirrorless was invented?

Just do that

Academic - there aren't any

Why?  They work seamlessly - and with all but the smallest lenses, not even noticeable in use.

but the RF versions are just too expensive, and they don't offer enough to make the expenditure worthwhile.
