Custom Film Simulations Question...

Camera is an X-Pro3...

So I understand how to setup and save film simulations to the different "registers" (C1 - C7).

I also understand how to delete a film simulation from one of the registers.

But what I'm wondering, is after I've modified all 7 registers, is there a way to "get back" to the original base settings - everything set to "0"?

I know I can leave one register unmodified and just select that, but I was curious if there was a single button press that would sort of "unselect" all banks?

Hope this question makes sense...

Not that I know of unfortunately. On my X-pro3 I leave one of the custom slots as a “default” with all the settings back to their default values, effectively leaving me with 6 customized slots.

Maybe someone knows of a better way!

Re: Custom Film Simulations Question...

I was thinking it may be a stupid question, but given all the options there are on cameras these days, I figured I'd ask.

How about using X Raw Studio?

Re: Custom Film Simulations Question...

I understand the suggestion, but I was thinking more of while I was out shooting if I wanted to just shoot a film simulation as it comes from Fujifilm.

Basically quickly switching from custom recipes back to factory.

Leaving one register unmodified does exactly what I want, I was just wondering if there was a way to use all the registers that I missed.

Just set 1 to Provia Standard with all other settings at base or zero.  You could also use X Acquire to backup your settings and then factory default if you wanted to confirm but I’m quite certain Provia standard is the default film simulation will color, sharpening, NR etc all set to 0 and auto white balance.

It's not a stupid question, far from it! When I started with Fujifilm, I wondered exactly the same thing and wasn't alone either. The answer however has already been provided:

You indeed have to "sacrifice" one of the custom profile slots for something like a default setting. Another option would be to search for a more or less neutral film recipe and use it as a baseline, so something without a harsh DR setting and any dramatic white balance experiments.

That's what I do, PLUS I've programmed one of my buttons of "Recall C1 settings". That way, with one press of that button it's done.

There's no "OFF" option for "Select Custom Setting" on X-Pro 3 bodies? Or "A" option in the Q menu?

It's a thing on my X-T30 II.

I looked it up for you: https://fujifilm-dsc.com/en/manual/x-pro3/shortcuts/q_button/index.html

You should be able to cycle through C1-C7 and back to 'BASE' from the Q menu.

This is the correct answer.

This is the correct answer.

Except it doesn't appear to work that way.

I just modified all 7 registers and then started cycling through them. Now I can only select one of those registers (C1 - C7) and when I do the word "BASE" appears above the register number in small text, presumably indicating "this is what the camera is now set to".

C2 has a film simulation I added, all other registers have been modified with Noise Reduction changed from "0" to "+1".

I then scrolled to C2 using the Q-menu and selected it.  This is what it shows now.

Then I went back to the Q-menu and scrolled through all the registers and they all show the NR change.

Before I select the register...

After I select the register...

So it seems like the only way to get back to "no modifications" is to leave one register unmodified.

Re: Custom Film Simulations Question...

I'm a bit too new with Fuji to give an authoritative answer, but I think Cx+Base means both custom presets and base settings are applied.

I vaguely remember Pal2Tech discussing this in one of his video. This may be the video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iE4sAPrVqE0 Have not double checked as I'm at work at the moment.
