… LX5 firmware

… Just tried to update the LX5’s firmware. Believe I followed the instructions carefully, but it would not recognize anything on the SD card. Any tips or tricks? Thanks… Iain

Sorry this thread has been overlooked. Not sure would you still have interest on this but in case if...

Might I ask where you save the firmware file (its Windows version should be "LX5_V20.exe" of 15.9Mb in size)? It should be saved on the root directory of your SD card. i.e. says if your SD card is E drive, the firmware file should be saved under E:/ .

Please also make sure that the SD card used is compatible to your camera (mostly the file system matter). It is safe to reformat the card inside your camera first if you do not sure on this.

Usually during the processing of expanding the downloaded firmware file LX5_V20.bin to LX5_V20.exe, the operating system of your computer would check for the integrity of the downloaded file and if anything wrong the expansion would be failed. This can make sure no bad file would be used (it might brick your camera).

Also as per my experience, Panasonic camera will check the file name if it will not match with the camera model, no update will be performed. Also if your camera already have the same version of firmware installed, the update will not be carried out too.

  • Insert the SD card properly into the camera,
  • having a fully charge battery, and
  • do not operate the camera

can ensure no accident might happen (risk are there for some brand(s) using on-line style of updating). It should be a very safe operation.

Wishing this would not be too late for you.
