EL-5

Anyone know how the new Canon EL-5 compares to the now discontinued 600ex rt 2?  Things are always changing, it's hard to keep up on what's what.  Peace!

Re: EL-5

As far as I checked main difference is the reduced recycle-time due to the battery-pack instead of AA-batteries. It also utilizes the electronic hotshoe which enables it to control up to 15 speedlights.

Cheers

Note that the EL-5 doesn't work with a regular hot shoe, you need a camera with the new multi-function shoe, which is present only on very recent cameras: R3, R6II, R7, R8, R10, R50 and R5C.

So it won't work on DSLRs, EOS-M and older R models like the RP, R, R6 and R5.

So Canon doesn’t sell a pro flash for the R5 anymore? Wow.

I still have my 600-EX, but that’s surprising to me.

Interesting that we can read the same reply and come away with different understandings.

The top model flash, EL-1, does work on on the R5.

Re: EL-5

Interesting and surprising that the hot shoe isn't compatible with the 1st generation of Canon's mirrorless cameras.  Sad really.  Thanks for all your info!  Peace!

Re: EL-5

Also the EL-5 doesn't support optical wireless flash. Only radio transmission so if you have older optical flashes. They won't work.
