Hold down Info button - affects display brightness?

Here’s a weird question.  On my M6 I, if I hold down the Info button for about 2-3 seconds my display will either brighten or darken, depending on what it is currently set to.

When I change it using the Info button, I check all of the settings in the menu related to display brightness and nothing is changed.

So what’s happening?

Re: Hold down Info button - affects display brightness?

Just tried it on mine, no change during playback or when taking a picture, but my screen is already turned up to max brightness

i used to have a button mapped to increase the brightness, perhaps its doing that ?

Re: Hold down Info button - affects display brightness?

Thanks for checking.  I tried charging my display brightness to max and holding the info button does nothing.  But it appears holding in if you have the brightness to anything lower will change it to max brightness, it’s simply not reflected in the menu item value.  Once you go into the menu item and change the brightness (or click ok without changing it) it reverts back to whatever that setting is.

It looks like a minor bug is all.

I have always loved that feature. It is only a temporary override of the brightness setting in the menu system.

Edit:
To restore the original brightness, press and hold the info button again for at least one second or restart the camera.

Re: Hold down Info button - affects display brightness?

Yes it's a common feature on Canon cameras - it's meant to boost brightness to the maximum temporarily so you can see the screen more easily if ambient light suddenly increases (eg. sun comes out). Pressing again re-sets it to whatever you have it set to in the menus. It's a great feature for conserving battery power.
