82mm Circular Polarizer

I am looking at the Nikon 82mm circular polarizer for the Canon RF 15-35mm f/2.8L lens. I do have a 77mm Nikon CP filter but wondering about any other suggestions that anyone has used besides the Nikon? I see the prices vary a bit.

Here is the Nikon 82mm filter.

Thank you,

Pete

Any suggestions or is this Nikon filter a good choice?

I use Polar Pro CPLs and some of their CPL/ND combo filters. Not sure if they are better or worse. Just an option ..

Thank you, looks like an option. I saw the Canon equivalent is $199 which is $27 higher than the Nikon I was looking at.

I have not used Nikon filters, but I have used Olympus. I have the B+W 82mm Master High Transmission Kaesemann Circular Polarizer and it is an excellent filter.   No vignetting with 15-35,

Would this be the one you have? Higher price than the others but important to limit the vignetting with a 15-35 mm lens.

Re: 82mm Circular Polarizer

I don't know that Nikon actually makes their filters. I've had excellent results from Hoya HD and HD2 filters. I see they're now on the 3rd generation, and it looks pretty pricey. One thing I like about my Hoyas is that their filter factor was (at the time) lower than other brands, yet they polarized about the same.

Breakthrough filters are also quite good, and far less expensive:

I used to use B+W CPLs, but at the time (about 10 years ago) I had problems with both of my B+W CPLs' mounts binding (others reported this as well), which is what got me to change to Hoya. B+W almost certainly has fixed the problem by now:

Whatever you decide on, don't get a cheap filter.

Get this one instead... B+W High-Transmission MRC-Nano Master Circular Polarizer Filter Nicer colors, much easier to clean

I am using Nikon CPL for at least 10 years ( but I prefer this one and I do recommend getting one over Nikon.... I did a test side by side and I like more B&W ( but I have 77mm)

As for 82mm I have Zeiss and also prefer this one compare to Nikon
Very good quality CPL ( but this does not cleans as easy as B&W but at leas as good as Nikon or a little easier )

Thank you, another response on this thread was for this same one. Is the Glazers camera and B&H the same filter just $50 difference in price?

Correct - both have the same number
MFR #66-1101635... You can find this info on both websites

Thank you. But you still prefer the B&W over the Nikon and Zeiss? I’m not sure about the difficulties in cleaning though. Are you saying the glass quality makes the difference in cleaning?

Exactly. B&W coating make big difference. And I prefer this Filters more than Nikon and Zeiss ( but Zeiss is also very good )
What I only don't like  about B&W CPL is that its rotate too easy in comparison to Nikon or Zeiss
You need to read some reviews about B&W and see, maybe this change  in last 6 months.
I still have Nikon 72mm CPL and I am using with 24-70 f4 ( but I wish to replace this filter with B&W ...thats how I like them

Re: 82mm Circular Polarizer

Whatever you buy, be aware that at very wide angles, the degree of polarisation of the sky varies across the field of view, and you will get variation in the blue shading across your image. This is not a fault of the filter - polarisation of sunlight from the sky is maximal at +/- 90 degrees from the sun, minimal at 0 / 180 degrees.  At 15mm you have about 100 degree field of view, which includes the maximum and minimum effects.  In some instances the resulting effect is very marked, so be careful. At 35mm you may not notice, but at 24 to 15mm you definitely will.

Thank you for the information.

I’m planning on getting this filter this week sometime.
