R7 in camera lens corrections?

Being relatively new to Canon do these take place with all formats of shooting i.e. raw and all jpeg settings? e.g. Apparently the 16mm f2.8 RF needs a lot of distortion correction and I wouldn't want to mess around in pp with a load of raw files correcting it.

No it doesn't. But DPP4 automatically corrects the distortion too (it makes no difference if you switch that lens correction off, though you can switch off the Digital Lens Optimizer, the Diffraction correction, Color blur and Peripheral illumination and see differences).

My DxO PhotoLab is set up to automatically apply all lens corrections.

Re: R7 in camera lens corrections?

As far as I know all RAW processors allow to bach process files, meaning turning on/off the lens corrections and their strength for all pictures at once.

Re: R7 in camera lens corrections?

In-camera lens corrections only apply to jpeg images, and to the the jpeg preview embedded in a RAW.  For some lenses, these cannot be turned off, and the reason for that is so that you see the corrected view via the EVF and LCD.  However the RAW file will still show the uncorrected image with the distortion, and you need to apply a profile when processing.  Canon DPP applies exactly the same correction as the camera body.  Lightroom and DXO PL (and others) have their own correction profiles which are not exactly identical.  You can set your RAW processor to apply correction by default.  If you only use jpeg, you don’t need to do anything.

I strongly recommend using DXO for the 16 F2.8. The results are remarkable. You get sharpness pretty much across the whole frame. I have DXO Photolab set up so that lens corrections are automatically applied to all camera/lens combinations. I don't have to turn anything on.

With DXO you can correct in DXO  to any degree desired.  They do great job so none of the new lenses with horrid corners are dealt with no intervention.  DXO is my goto editor for RAW files.
