R6 or R6 mark ii

I am ready to upgrade my 5d Mark III and am looking at the R6 Mark II.

I can get the R6 Mark II for 2500 Euro but the R6 body now for 1500 Euro. Both from the same respectable shop who is clearly dumping the R6.

I am 99% making pictures but especially look at the R6 for the good AF to get better dog pictures.

Is R6 mark II worth the 1000 Euro differences??

Wow, that’s a huge difference in price. Is the R6 brand new? If it is that looks like a good deal. Here the difference is $ 200.

Brand new with 3 years Canon Switzerland warranty.

Agree difference is big and I have the feeling the mark ii has mainly improved features when shooting video.

The R6 is the next generation of AF and auto subject tracking.  How much is that worth to you.

If and when I bother upgrading from my EOS R, which has great AF, it will be to the latest generation of AF available.  AF for dog and family shots.

The biggest advantage I see in the Mark II is its pre-capture where if you are holding the shutter button half way down, it stores images immediately before you push the shutter button all the way and writes them to the card. So if your dog does something spectacular and you are a bit slow, you might still get peak action.

Thanks Carl, this is an important feature.

What about the USB-C functionality of transferring and controlling the camera directly from your mobile.

I understood this is not possible with the R6.

Sorry I don’t know anything about this.

The R6 can use Canon Connect for file transfer, remote shutter release and GPS + a few other things. It also uses UB-C for charging.

R6II adds the functionality of connecting to Camera Connect via cable so no issues with Wi-Fi or Bluetooth connectivity.  Basically using your phone as a tethered device.

That price for the R6 is a steal.  I would jump on it before it is gone.  Unless there is a feature you must have, I don't see the value in the Mark II.

Thanks All.

Decided to go for the R6. The difference was just too big. If I really wear down the R6 I will buy the R6 mark IV in three years :).

Total damage 1395 Euro or 1499 USD for the body with 3 years Canon factory warranty.

Have some great EF objectives so looking forward for some great pictures!

If you're after the 24mp, no.

If you're after better AF, no. The R6 AF system is one of the best among Canon bodies.

If you're gunning for better high ISO image quality, no.

If you want a more "future proof" camera body, yes.

If you want better video features, no recording limit, less overheating, etc., yes.

I made the switch recently from the R6 to the R6Mii. Am I happy with the decision? Yes I am. Was it absolutely necessary? No.

My favorite feature in the R6Mii that's not in the R6? Auto subject selection. Don't have to switch from people to animal to vehicle to typewriter to boulder to crickets anymore Choose auto, and the camera switches between people and animals and cars flawlessly.

How do you find rolling shutter in ES mode, if you use it?  I understand it is better but just OK.
