Viltrox still has the new firmware in Beta, but they released a second version of it on March 6th. I installed it and noted the focus speed has improved somewhat, and the lens does lock on faster without as much hunting. It's not up to my 56/1.2, but it's very good.

The issues surrounding the update bricking the lens seem to trace back to the updates being done with Apple computers, so i presume Viltrox didn't certify the update on Macs and something is going on with the transfer process.

Recommendations seem to be to update the firmware via a Windows computer until they get this sorted out.

Where do I find the second version of the update? I saw on Viltrox website they had 1.0.1 version, but that seems like the first beta.

Also, where do I download the old version in case I need to revert back?

Here's the link to the new firmware:

and the original firmware:

Enjoy

Thank you! Just finished the update and the lens does seem snappier/more confident.

By the way, the link to the new firmware you provided seems to point to fred miranda. I just copied the text and pasted into a new tab to get to the right place.

I think this is the most relevant feedback I've seen on this lens as it relates to autofocus.

The 56 f1.2 is one of the worst (if not the worst) Fuji lens when it comes to autofocus speed.

18mm F2, 60mm F2.4 and the 35mm F1.4  takes the podium spots.

Have nothing bad to report so far.

If you had seen that many had problems why didn't you mention that in such a glowing review?

It was ONE reply on Instagram at the time, that's about it.

It's a trivial operation to revert back to original firmware, plus I was happy with the performance pre-update...

Hey! I love my 60mm. But you're right, it has character, both in the photos it takes and how it focuses.

They won't but it would be nice if Fuji updated the 60mm mechanically, but they don't need to make a "clinical" lens, I like it's optics just fine.

I also just updated my lens and can add to the confirmation that there is now no issue with Mac's. On stock firmware out of the box I'd say it was a little faster than the 56 to acquire focus and tracking. With latest firmware acquisition is noticeably quicker and more confident. What really surprised me is just how much better the tracking is with both speed and smoothness. I probably wouldn't use it for anything running but after a quick test I'd use it for video with someone walking towards the camera without much concern.

That's exactly my point in this thread: the tracking performance is actually pretty darn good.

You should try the running thing, you might get surprised... At least I was.

As I said, I use computers at about a grade 2 level. Glad you found the updates in spite of me.

I bet either would be fine.  Especially with other Mac users now reporting success with the latest update file.  Bug seems to be fixed.  If both are readily available, maybe go with the M1, only because I can confirm success with my M2.
