One day I will get a big boy zoom to go with my camera and won't have to crop the living daylights out of my photos. The bird was well within range that 350-400mm would have filled the image nicely

Cheers

Jason

Re: Bird photos

Those are just beautiful, and I especially like the very soft character of several of them-- the birds are sharp, but the background-- and foreground come across as beautifully soft.  Nice work.

A gorgeous winter/mountain landscape.  It could be a wall hanger IMO.

Re: White Tail Deer giving me the eye

That's really a nice shot, and especially as it's at ISO 4000.  I also like the BW-- just works for this photo.

Re: Images from Somewhere (Else)…

I like all those old history photos, and especially the 4th with the 2 mounds in the foreground.  Are those burial mounds?  I think sometimes referred to as Barrow mounds.

Hi Bramble9,

As far as we can recall from the info boards and our cursory browsing of the web site blurb the mounds are either natural, or associated with the various defensive/ domestic designs implemented as the site changed in terms of purpose and use through the ages.

(That’s not to say there could be burial mounds in and around the area as these can often be found at sites of antiquity - I believe there are some in evidence near where we live).

Walking in nature

After our last discussion on EF 70-200 f/2.8 lenses here, I managed to grab a used copy for decent $$. Just testing it out in the nearby forest. Lovely lens(My first ever L tele) but slightly heavy and it attracts too much attention. One positive of that is I managed to make two new acquaintances and briefly discussed photography with strangers. so a great conversation starter for sure!

Limestone country
3

We have friends from Europe staying with us at the moment, and yesterday we took them for a picnic and stroll on our neighbour's farm. This is the heart of our local limestone country, rocks laid down 20 - 60 million years ago, rich in fossils of all kinds. It's one of the best sites in the world for penguin fossils - in fact our neighbour has a fossil penguin named after him.

I took the R6 and my new 14-35...

This limestone bluff runs for tens of kilometres, cut through by a gorge and numerous faults. Our house is built on top of a similar, but somewhat less dramatic geological structure.

The "Bishop's Head" - nose and smiling mouth with a mitre hat on top.

The same outcrop, looking straight at the bishop's nose - which has disappeared...
