Toggling tracking on R6II and R7

On my R7 and R6II I have both tracking and eye AF engaged most of the time. I have assigned a button on each one to toggle eye AF on and off. I would also like to be able to do that with tracking, but it doesn't seem to work the same way. If I assign tracking on/off to a button, it doesn't toggle tracking off if tracking is on by default. In fact, I don't really know what pressing the button does, if tracking is already on. It gives a double border to the AF point, but it doesn't seem to behave any differently. If tracking is off, pressing the button toggles tracking on, but only until the next shutter press. If I take my finger off the shutter button, I need to engage tracking with the button again. For the times when I don't want tracking, I have the AF-ON button assigned to do spot focus with no eye detect or tracking. But I would like to be able to move the focus point around, which I can't do while I'm pressing the AF-ON button. Does anyone know if there's a way to do what I want? It's not a big deal, but it would be nice if the tracking toggle worked the same way as the eye detect toggle.
