Re: Late Afternoon on the Canal

That looks so nice.  Even though we only see one canoe, it reminds me of when I used to see the dragon boat races in Portland during the summer.

A little out of the ordinary.

This just happened a few minutes ago.

Luckily the tree fell to the north. If it had fallen to the west, as the lady in the TV commercial says, "I wouldn't be sitting here right now."

That's beautiful.  Where is this biosphere?

Interesting....  Was that caused by lightning?

Dig,

No.

Tornado. I'm still without power.

No heat or lights.

Thanks for your kind feedback.

The Biosphere is located on Saint Helen Island, which is a part of the city of Montreal.

It was originally designed by the American architect Buckminster Fuller for housing the United States pavilion during the Expo 67 world's fair.

It has been re-purposed to serve as a museum devoted to the eco-dynamics between society and the environment.

Re: Show Your Snaps...February 27, 2023

I'm sorry to hear that.  I saw a large tree come down once as a result of lightning.  But I never had experience with tornadoes (of any large magnitude).  I thought I saw one in Colorado that didn't touch the ground many years ago.  At least it looked like a small one high in the clouds.  Once a very small tornado knocked some shingles off of a roof and damaged a wood fence, near where I lived in Colorado.  I was at work when it happened but didn't see it.  I heard it looked like chimney smoke, that went high into the sky.

With that tornado that hit you all, I hope no-one was hurt and that you get your power and heat back soon.  Our weather in Oregon is not as violent now (we rarely get tornadoes), but we most likely will get snow tonight down to the 500 foot level.

The Redbuds are starting to bloom. That's always a good sign.

Here's that tree that came down next to my house.

I only stand about a third that tall.

It's looking good...come on spring! We are still having some snow mixed with rain.  The crocus flowers were not happy with our snow.  But we are having a better day today with a little sun.

First, I miss Spring. I drove my 2003 summer car up the trail (I have winter tires on it but it hasn’t seen a road since November). It is always in the garage otherwise.

Plenty of snow this year, almost four feet on the ground. Warmer winters always mean more snow.

A few pictures from tonight.

Driving uphill.

Plenty of snow if we consider the fact that there must be at least 6 inches or packed snow on the trail itself.

Still looks new after 20 years.

There is always something to shoot/snap, you just have to know how to do it and have the right gear.

I like seeing your night time pictures with all of that snow.  The white balance looks good.  That's great you take such good care of your automobile.  Do they salt the roads where you live?

Those newer iPhones are really great for photos. These were straight from the camera although I replaced all the spots in my land with 5k ones (daylight).

Around the lake, there’s no salt on the roads but there is sand. On the local highways there’s a mix of salt and sand and on the major highways only salt.

My old car was used in winter in its first years but I was spending a fortune on hand car washes (I didn’t have a garage at the time). It’s very difficult keeping a car rust free here in Quebec after 8-9 years. I haven’t seen one Focus year/model like mine in years. I kept it as a summer car because it came with the sports package (better engine, stick shift, mags, spoiler, fog lights, etc).

Re: A recent sunset

That's dramatic with the layers of clouds and the sun rays. My favorite is the second one.

Re: A recent sunset

Thanks.

To be honest I occasionally miss the "Canon Colours" with my Olympus camera. Not often though. I think I'll try processing these shots from RAW, to see if I get a better result.
