I have a R7 and a 90D; why shouldn't I sell the 90D?

I've had the R7 for a few months and am bonding well with it, having used the DSLR D series for many years. I use these for general photography, everything from macro to wildlife, mostly landscape and still subjects, and rarely video. I have a half dozen EF(S) lenses, and a EF>RF adapter.

I have not found an area where the 90D is clearly preferable, and am inclined to sell it, but am posting to make sure I am not overlooking some advantage that I have missed.

I'd have sold mine, but I gave it to my son.  With the R7, I too don't find a need for the 90D myself.

If you havent picked it back up for a specific use by now, you probably wont.

I would be inclined to sell it.

You could keep the 90D as a 2nd body. Sometimes it is quite handy to have 2 lenses ready to go.

You could also convert it as an IR camera.

I'm asking myself the same thing about my 7dII; I have an almost emotional attachment to it after owning/using/loving it since it was released, but the R7 is pretty damn impressive and is working hard to convince me!

For me I've always kept the most recent body as a backup to the newest.

The one thing that the R7 can't do is the IR flash AF assist. No mirrorless can do that and I sometimes miss it on my R6.

Apart that...

Only application would be a long trek and not having access to charging batteries - or you need a battery grip.

All else the mirrorless is better.

I always have a back up camera. You never know when your main camera is going to fail, get dropped, fall off a tripod, fall out of an unzipped camera bag, etc. If you don't have a second camera, your 90D is an excellent choice.

Yes, if all you have to do is remove the IR-cut layer on top.  I would think that monochrome conversion would lose the dual-pixel AF, though, for live view and video, if they have to remove the microlenses to dissolve the CFA.  I would really like a monochrome version of that sensor.  Without microlenses, the narrower pixels in the horizontal direction may cause luminance losses at the left and right edges of the frame, too.  The 90D doesn't have dual-pixel raw, so you can't capitalize on the doubled horizontal resolution, as the readout will just give the full pixels combined.

Re: I have a R7 and a 90D; why shouldn't I sell the 90D?

Thanks to all who answered my query. For the moment, I think I'll keep the 90D for back up, and the very rare case I want to use the built-in flash. The 90D has much superior battery life, of course, but I can easily bring along an couple extra batteries. The best camera is the one I will actually carry (there is no FF body in my future), and I like the lighter weight and greater compactness of the R7. Both are great bodies, for sure. As I believe the 90D is likely to be the last DSLR in the xxD series, it should keep its value for a good while, as it will be valued by those who really value the DSLR design.

(BTW--I am amused by complaints about the noise of the R7 mechanical shutter, which certainly doesn't seem worse than the 90D or the earlier bodies I have used over the years.)

Everyone looks for different features, of course, but one thing I love about the R7 is the really outstanding IS (LensIS + IBIS). It is incredible, and superior to any IS I have experienced before. The accuracy and speed of focusing is great, too, but not noticeably superior to the 90D, for subjects I generally have.
