SD1 Merrill at the last days of Feb. 2023

Hello out there!
As I have already told you, Alsace is known for its very European high-quality wines, its gastronomy and its special nature in the vineyards and in the mountains. This time we hiked in the pre-spring in a special area known for its spring orchids. The subsoil here is a gigantic calcareous floe, and we have a calcareous nutrient-poor plant-society under our shoes. But it was still too early in the year and we only found 3 orchid specimens.
We started in a small vine village and hiked up the mountains. Here are some pictures. I did no post processing, then it's more for the pixel peepers

Have fun watching!

The plants in the vine yards waiting for beeing cut in a very special manner.

The first trees (wild cherry) and bushed have started to blossom. Many terrestrial insects and amphibians live on these slopes.

The "Hotel de Ville" is not a place to stay, but the town hall. Pixel peepers can watch the peeling paint and "patina" on the clock tower. The lot of "dust specs" in the picture are snowflakes!

A view of an old alley that leads to a winery. Some snow was just coming up.

People love to decorate their houses even if they don't have much money themselves.

Even after 10 years, the SD1 Merrill is a wonderful and suitable instrument for taking pictures that are expressive and unique in terms of color and technology. I don't see any "obsolescence" of the underlying technology here, as has been heavy claimed elsewhere on the forum.

Nice set of images Amadeus21:  thanks for sharing!

My fav is the 'Hotel de Ville' SD1 Merrill images are fun to pixel peep.  I have had my SD1 Merrill for almost 12 years and it is still producing great images.  The 18-35 mm art lens is my fav.

Many thanks for your kind comment! I regret, that in that case all pictures are done out of hand, instead with tripod, as I myself recommended elsewhere here in the forum. The Merrill debunks every weakness while picturing, with the lens and motion blurr. But in France you are not allowed to take pictures everywhere. Free landscape, ok. But in villages and towns you may get difficulties when setting up a tripod and picturing private buildings or even industrial plants. I myself had been about to be imprisioned for picturing a chemical plant.

Best wishes and thanks!

Johannes

Amadeus21,

A fine set of images with a camera that is as capable now as it was 10 years ago & will very likely still good ten years on.

I agree Johannes, and when the FFF finally becomes available, it will work just fine for many years, not only for landscapes and portraits, but for most types of photography, even if it can't compete with some other cameras for dynamic range, focusing speed, shooting speed, resolution, etc. It will be unique in its own way.
