Where to preorder EOS R8 ? (Canada)

Hi

I decided to go for the R8, but where to preorder it in Canada?

Will you go a a big renown storefront camera store?
Official Canon.ca website?
BestBuy.ca?
Other?

Thanks

I like to support my local camera stores, namely Henry's and Vistek.  Both have a long history and are good to deal with.

I do not trust Henry's after what they have done with LL Lozeau here at Montreal ... They had a great opportunity to have a presence here, but not only they kills it by breaking their promise to the old owner, but they also left like thieves abandonning even their own employees who found one monday morning the shop emptied and doors closed.

That's how they put an end to a 95 years old well known camera store here.

I'll never buy from them, for me Amazon or them, there is no difference, a store without a soul.

I have nothing against Vistek, but the closest store is in Ottawa, ~200Km from here.

Congratulations on your purchase.

Did they provide any expected delivery times?

Everything seems to be quiet on the R8 front.

I have an RP and it would be a very nice upgrade I think.

The RP also has the efcs only for mechanical shutter but the addition of a usable electronic shutter at up to 40fps would be great but I doubt my Tamron lenses would be able to focus fast enough so I might have to replace it with the rf100-400.

The batteries are compatible (also have 2 M bodies with same batteries), body size is what I'm used to and I have the base plate which I believe is also compatible.

I'll wait till some reviews (not first looks) and actual user experiences are available.

The sensor sounds like it could have better noise handling at higher ISO values than the RP.

Cheers

Paul

Hi

Did they provide any expected delivery times?

They (Photo Service) were very honest, officially, it comes in Canada un March, so the countdown start tomorrow.

I had also to say the other shop (Gosselin) also was very honest, with allready 24 preorder on their list they just tells me I won't be in the first batch, maybe not in the secoind. Last time, the store received only x2 R7 in the first batch.

Officially, according to rumors, it comes beginning of April.

I just need it before mid-july

Thanks

Thanks for the reply.

I'm in Sydney Australia but just curious to know when it will start shipping.

I'll wait and see what happens at Easter or our end of financial year.

Sometimes we get decent sales, sometimes lol.

Doesn’t it make the most sense to order from Canon?  One would think they would have the best supply before retail or Internet sites.

not sure why your asking the question

the answer should be ANY AUTHORIZED DEALER that has in stock..kind of like going to the men's room and asking the audience what urinal should I use?

I bought a Tamron 100-400/4.5-6.3 brand new in 2018. Just got the Tamron Tap-In console today so I was able to upgrade this lens to the new firmware (Feb. 2019). There seems to be an marked improvement in AF with my R6MKII vs. when I tried it without the firmware update.

Hi José,

Thanks for the reply

I got my Tamron 100-400 as a used one in later 2019.

I took it took a camera store where they checked the firmware and it was at the latest version.

I am glad it is working well with the R6II.

Have you tried photographing faster moving subjects using the electronic shutter and 20 or 40fps.  Would be curious to know if the lens could keep up.

Cheers

Hi Paul,

Yes I'm getting ~40 fps with the high + bursts on the Tammy. Just got the Sandisk 128 GB UHS-11 Extreme Pro card too. I tried it with moving cars towards me. Interesting that if I put the focus point on the grill of the vehicle the blue box is 'rectangled' on the windshield. Overall, I am very happy about its AF performance. I'm not much into wildlife but I might try it out for BIF just to get more challenging action in. Curious to see how it performs too with running shots but marathon season here is still a couple of months away.

One thing though, I bought the camera because of its much heralded 40 fps in ES but boy there are tons of pics to sift through LOL.

Cheers,

José

Re: Where to preorder EOS R8 ? (Canada)

Hi

not sure why your asking the question

My question was more about trust and feedback from different source (canon website, instore)
It was more about how to get my R8 ideally in the first batch and what was experience from buyer for different type if store.

the answer should be ANY AUTHORIZED DEALER that has in stock.

Being "in stock" can be understood in many fancy way depending on who you are dealing with.

I do not count how many time an "in stock" item was just cancelled, having no consideration for the customer.

Some will tells you an item is "in stock", and will delay your order from months keeping you hostage, even if the item is available elsewhere.

First store were very honest : 24 preorder for the R8 (for every store), and they told me last time with the R7 they only received 2 units in this specific store ... So they told me I will surely have it on the second or maybe third batch.

On the second store, I was the first in line, so I'll be the first to receive it.

We will see.

Re: Where to preorder EOS R8 ? (Canada)

no one knows

cameras are sent from the manufacturing plant to the distributors, they then send them out to stores. So many variables that would affect when it get to stores its anybody GUESS. Canon online store is not at the plant that makes them.

Bottom line a store wants to get your money so the other store does not. they will tell you what you want to hear
