R3 red light

Anyone know if the small red light on the back of the camera that blinks each time you take a photo can be turned off? If not I will have to resort to using thick masking tape.

That little red “writing to card” light has been a feature of all Canon dSLRs and mirrorless since the dawn of time, and possibly other manufacturers too.  After a burst that fills the buffer it may flash for several seconds.  It’s there to tell you not to open the card or battery door.  As far as I know it can’t be turned off, and I quite understand that it could be annoying in certain situations. I think you might be right about using tape - try metal tape for opacity.

Thanks Dr Snoopy! Appreciate the info. It is then as I suspected - tape it will have to be.

It's never been a problem for me in twenty years until recently. I shot ballet in near darkness and the gentleman sitting in the row behind me said it was very bright and annoying - I apologised and used a plaster in a pinch - but will carry a roll of black tape in future for night events.

It was even more useful in the early days of digital cameras, where opening the card door before writing images was completed meant that you lost these images. Now writing continues as long as you don't pull the card.
