Asked ChatGPT which cameras are using stacked sensor - R3 not on the list but R5 is!

Asked ChatGPT two questions. The first answer was a bit outdated.

While I am not an expert in phones, I strongly suspect these phones probably are not using stacked sensors (probably just BSI sensors) because a stacked sensor is thicker - not that desirable for a smartphone. Nowadays, smartphones have so many cameras inside, hard to imagine they can afford multiple stacked sensors inside.

Unfortunately, the second answer was totally wrong! R5 and R6 sensors are not even BSI sensors (a pre-requisite for stacked sensors)

I know Canon R3 is a relatively new camera and ChatGPT's knowledge may not be updated enough. So I asked two sports events questions, (who won NBA and US Open in 2021) that occurred after R3 was announced. ChatGPT answered both correctly

The scary thing is ChatGPT talks like an expert but is giving out a lot of wrong information.

(my first question) which cameras are using stacked sensor?

(ChatGPT's reply) Stacked image sensors are used in a number of high-end digital cameras and smartphones. Some popular camera models that use stacked sensors include:

  1. Sony Alpha 9 and Sony Alpha 9 II: These full-frame mirrorless cameras use Sony's latest stacked CMOS sensors for high speed shooting, fast autofocus and improved image quality.
  2. Sony Xperia 1 III: This is a high-end smartphone that uses a stacked sensor for improved image quality and fast autofocus.
  3. Huawei P40 Pro: This smartphone also uses a stacked sensor for improved image quality and fast autofocus.
  4. Oppo Find X3 Pro: This smartphone uses a stacked sensor to improve its image quality and low light performance.

It's worth noting that while stacked sensors offer some advantages over traditional sensors, they are still relatively new technology and are mainly used in high-end cameras and smartphones at this time.

(my second question) Can you list more cameras with stacked sensor? Such as Canon and Nikon?

(ChatGPT's reply) Sure! Here are some additional cameras that use stacked sensors:

  1. Canon EOS R5 and Canon EOS R6: These full-frame mirrorless cameras from Canon use stacked CMOS sensors for improved autofocus, high speed shooting and overall image quality.
  2. Nikon Z7 and Nikon Z6: These full-frame mirrorless cameras from Nikon use stacked CMOS sensors for improved autofocus, high speed shooting, and image quality.
  3. Fujifilm X-T4: This mirrorless camera from Fujifilm uses a stacked sensor for improved image quality and autofocus performance.
  4. Panasonic Lumix S1H: This full-frame mirrorless camera from Panasonic uses a stacked sensor for improved video capabilities, autofocus and image quality.
  5. Sigma fp: This compact full-frame mirrorless camera uses a stacked sensor for improved image quality and autofocus performance.

It's worth noting that the use of stacked sensors is still relatively new in the world of photography, and this technology is mainly used in high-end cameras at this time. However, as the technology continues to advance, it is likely that we will see more cameras that utilize stacked sensors in the future.

ChatGPT or “BingGPT”?

I think it’s just a logic fault on spec sheet detection in this case.

Yes, I find this regularly with the technical requests I've asked of it. several instances where it's provided an answer, then 2-3 reference links to URLs that are only 404s (not found), where it will eventually tell me sorry it had no supporting documentation.

It mansplains...very sure of itself when not warranted.

ChatGPT is trying to talk like a human. Feel like whenever it cannot provide a good answer, it will just provide some junk information to fill in.  Ironically, I happen to know some kids who behave almost exactly like that.

ChatGPT allegedly was trained with billions (?) of chats on internet forums, so it is no wonder it is likely to respond with "I have no idea about the thing you're asking, but I'll give you an answer anyway".

Yeah. I asked it where I could buy Canon BGM-BG-22 Battery trays and it gave me Amazon, B&H, and Adoroma, even telling me to search for "Canon BGM-BG-22 Battery Magazine." But you can't buy them at those stores...you can't buy them anywhere. I already knew that, but ChatGPT gave me an awesomely detailed instructions on it.

ChatGPT will certainly blow smoke up your fanny if it can. If it can't dazzle you with brilliance, it will attempt to baffle you with BS.

Me: In the television series Firefly, River Tam was adverse to a particular company. She ripped off the can labels bearing that company name, and she slashed Jayne's shirt bearing that company name. What was the name of the company?

ChaptGPT: River Tam did not hate a specific company in the Firefly series. Rather, she had a deep distrust of the Alliance, which was the government that controlled the star system where the series takes place. Therefore, there was no particular company name that she ripped off the can labels of or slashed from Jayne's shirt in the series. Instead, River's actions were meant to convey her general disdain for the Alliance and anything associated with it.

Me: In the television series Firefly, what was the Blue Sun corporation?

ChatGPT: The Blue Sun Corporation is a fictional company that appears in the Firefly television series and its associated media, such as the Serenity comic book series. It is depicted as a powerful and secretive corporation with a major presence in the Firefly universe, and is implied to have significant influence over many planets and organizations. The Blue Sun Corporation is primarily involved in the production and distribution of food and other consumer goods, and is known for its signature "Blue Sun" logo. The company's activities are often portrayed as shady and unethical, and it is suggested that it has connections to criminal organizations and government agencies. The Blue Sun Corporation serves as a recurring element in the Firefly series, and is often mentioned in passing or seen in the background of various scenes. It is also a major plot point in the Serenity comic book series, where its secrets and machinations are explored in greater detail.

Me: Weren't you incorrect when you asserted, "...there was no particular company name that she ripped off the can labels of or slashed from Jayne's shirt in the series?"

ChatGPT: You are correct, and I apologize for any confusion caused by my previous responses. In the Firefly television series, there is a specific company name that River Tam tears off the can labels of and that she also slashes from Jayne's shirt. The company's name is "Blue Sun," and it is a fictional corporation that is involved in a variety of industries, including food production and space exploration. In the episode "Safe," River is shown tearing the "Blue Sun" labels off of canned goods in a market. Later in the same episode, she slashes the "Blue Sun" logo from the shirt worn by Jayne, a member of the crew of the Serenity spaceship. These actions are intended to convey River's distrust and suspicion of the Alliance, as "Blue Sun" is often associated with the Alliance in the Firefly universe.

Just keep talking about R5 and stacked sensor here, and Chat GPT will believe that R5 has one.  We are contributing to its misinformation.

Simple answer. Data is cutoff sometime in 2021. You need to wait for the next version.

I have heard ChatGPT referred to as "mansplaining as a service" and I can't think of a better description. Use at your own risk.
