Lens (70-200 f 2.8) and camera (R5) test by taking a picture

Hello guys,

The last moon photo is hard to test the lens and the body. I know I should take a photo on a sunny day and for a certain test pixel. But I think this one could also be fine. Why I am thinking is not as sharp as I expect? I was using P mode.

Maybe due to P mode? or are there any potential defects for my R5 and lens?

Thanks!

Of course, maybe my skill is not good enough. Just want to make sure there are no defects in my new camera and lens

1) 70 mm in this kind of lenses will always blur some part of the picture depends where is your focus
2) f4.5 is very shallow depth of field at 70mm
3) Make sure to try with VR ON/OFF - if you shoot at 1/200s to see difference
4) Use tripod and focus whenever you like to see a results. This will eliminate hands shaking

Lens and camera are perfectly fine.

1.) Don't use P. Use AV and choose a better aperture, f/8 would be fine here.

2.) Canon produces fantastic JPEGs for portraits. For everything else, shoot RAW and use a good RAW converter (i like DXO). After some clicks the image looks much better

I don't see anything which would give me cause for concern. The low contrast which you tend to get on dull days makes images subjectively less sharp, but if you examine it at 1:1 it's a good, sharp image. The softness along the bottom is almost certainly just because it's outside the depth of field.

This looks just fine. You can read all the names on the memorial bricks. If your lens or camera had any issues you would not be able to do this. I don't know what more you can expect.
