I think it's the single worst camera interface control ever put on a camera. It's horrid. First, it's finicky as heck, and when using it with ISO, it is difficult to switch between auto ISO and selected ISOs. The 'lock' function on it is just hit or miss. It can't be used with gloves, and there is no tactile feedback at all. Also, it takes up space that should have been used for a focus joystick. I was relieved when Canon abandoned it for all future models.

It's very useful with one end toggling the histogram, the other toggling the level and the swipe controlling viewfinder magnification. I wish I could do that with my other cameras, but yes, it would be wasted as a horrible ISO control. It's impossible to switch between a selected ISO and auto ISO anyway if the metering is switched on. The R has better controls for ISO already.

Can you take a screenshot and show how you set up would like to do the same

Sorry, my phone camera isn't really up to that and it's a few levels down anyway.

Menu C.Fn4: Operation choose Customize M-Fn bar

Choose Disable for the M-Fn bar safety lock

User customization,  choose the swiping button,

Choose Check focus/Disp. Info, Magnify/ reduce by swiping (magnifying glass on steps icon)

Under User customization, choose the left tap button,

Choose Check focus/Disp. Info, Histogram (framed mountains icon)

Under User customization choose the right tap button,

Choose Check focus/Disp. Info, Electronic level (crossed through round brackets icon)
