Olympus 40-150 f2.8 Pro tripod collar

I have just received my new OM 90mm macro lens and would like to buy just the tripod collar from the Olympus 40-150 f2.8 Pro to add to the lens.

(I do have the Olympus 40-150 f2.8 Pro and the collar does fit the new 90mm macro. I could swap the collar back and forth but it is a bit of a pain so would rather buy a second collar. I am also aware there is a cheap knock off collar available but would prefer the original Olympus version)

Has anyone been able to locate a part number for just the collar or a supplier you could order one from?

Re: Olympus 40-150 f2.8 Pro tripod collar

I have heard a rumor from a reputable source that a well known 3rd party supplier might offer a 40-150/90 tripod collar soon.

Thanks a bunch for that!!

The part is listed on the OM System U.S. site but unfortunately they do no ship to Canada and the OM System Canada site does not list the part.

At least with the SKU number I now have my Canadian dealer looking in to sourcing the part

Hopefully they can get it, otherwise will have to have it shipped to someone in the U.S. and forwarded.

That was the knock off that I was already aware of, would prefer the OEM version.

I just bought a used 300/4 and it came with a decorative ring!  Eventually discovered what it was for.

As a result of this thread, I now know where to get one for the 40-150/2.8.  Just have to see if I can get the local dealer to order it in.

Congratulations!

Could you please comment on how well the 40-150 PRO’s collar fits and operates on the new 90mm macro?

I expect that in the absence of locating pins for the collar on the macro lens, you become reliant on visual framing and on camera and support leveling indicators?  Once you lock down the collar mounting knob, how well does the lens maintain its position w.r.t. the collar with handling?

In the States the 300 shipped with the ring (DR-79, $25) and Oly decided to make one for the 40-150 as well. Not at home to retrieve the P/N but I bought one and it stays on the zoom 98% of the time. Replaced the silicone band I had been using.

If they added the A-S grooves to the 40-150 tripod foot I'd ponder replacing the original.

Cheers,

Rick

Seems to lock down tight and rotate smoothly exactly as it does of the 40-150.

You still have the one centering mark on the actual collar for visual reference. I find that for a lot of macro work precise 90 degree increments are rarely used so the lack of the 4 90 degree locating pins does not concern me at all.

Personally I'd go for the knock-off as it has the Arca-swiss groove which is almost essential.  YMMV.

Ah well, I personally hate chinese knock off anything (being a small manufacturer and trying to block knock offs of patented items will do that to you)

Also have seem some people reporting the chinese arca swiss does not lock tight in some real arac swiss clamps and then you are stuck with an unusable piece of crap.

Personally I will be placing a slightly longer lens plate on mine which will give some front to back focusing adjustment when on a tripod.

I may dislike Chinese knock-offs but what alternative is there when the OEM product isn’t available in my country ?
