Canon 70-200mm F4L USM + EF-E mount adapter for Sony A6000?

Hi, I'm looking for a good cheap 70-200mm lens and stumbled upon a Canon F4L USM (non-IS) for under 400$. I was wondering whether pairing this with an EF to E mount adapter (possibly a Viltrox EF-E II) would be a good idea for my A6000, as the Sony 70-200mm lenses are way too expensive for me.

Welcome to the forum Edward. You should get more specific information on how the various adapters work on Sony cameras if you do a bit of research in the Sony Alpha / NEX E-mount (APS-C) Talk Forum or possibly even the Adapted Lenses forum, but there are a lot of Sony users here who might be able to help.

$400 sounds a bit expensive for that lens if those are US$, as the going rate for an excellent copy at https://www.mpb.com/en-uk/product/canon-ef-70-200mm-f-4-l-usm?page=3 is more like £280 including 20% VAT and a six month warranty. It's still an excellent lens, but it was discontinued three years ago, hence the price.

Thanks for the warm welcome!

After reading a bit, I found that the 70-200 F4L USM is compatible with the Viltrox EF-E II with fast, accurate AF on the A6300. However, I'm still unsure of the A6000's capability to use the adapter. To my knowledge, said adapter works pretty decently on the A6000 with some Canon lenses, but I haven't managed to find anyone explicitly confirm that the A6000, EF-E II, and F4L USM can all work together well.

You would need a native emulating adapter to get phase-detect with the A6000.

The Canon F4L does work pretty well with the Metabones IV Advanced Mode. Note that only the center AF points work. I haven't used the Viltrox.

The Sony E 55-210 OSS has much better AF, but even with that lens though I found the A6000 pretty unreliable in AF-C. I ended up using Center AF with it too.

I had a6000, a6300 and now using a6400. Avoid a6000 and Viltrox adapter, it works for basic AF but not for action. a6300 or even faster a6400 with Sigma adapter is perfect for any sports. Now I updated to IS version of 70-200 f4 and 100mm f2, perfect focus and perfect sharpness. I returned Viltrox but kept Viltros speed booster. I sold my Sony 70-200 f4 and using now only Canon lenses on my Sony.  Loved 135mm L lens, perfect for hockey and volleyball. .
