Aww yes EVs, I see the pros, but also not blind to the cons. Here in the US our electric grid is woefully out dated and electric cost are always soaring. Trading one cost for another seems like a wash as far as the consumer goes. I also know so many that can't afford a good used gas car, I have no idea how they would afford a new EV. Maybe they will come up with some sort of rental system to help move people to them. I myself would like to see more fast light rail. I would gladly ride a train to my work which is a 45 minute drive by car. Just yesterday I had to take my wife to her neruologist for her checkup, 90 minute drive one way . How great would it have been to jump on a train then grab a taxi or Uber from a station near the hospital ? Well to get back on subject at least we will be able to get photos soon of the new futuristic looking vehicles .

We need a “Beam me up Scottie” kind of technology!

January Wildlife - Thanks

Thanks.  I don't always get that opportunity to get that close to the squirrel.

Road Trip - Thanks

Thanks.  I'm glad you enjoyed them.  Outside the wildlife areas, towns and cities that I visit, there's many rural communities to see.  I can capture them from the car, even though it's through glass; I think they still come out OK.

A little trivia:  The state of Oregon is about the same size as the UK.  That's how big it is.

Yeah. The USA certainly dwarfs the UK.

A quick google search reveals that Oregon is in fact actually slightly larger.

Re: Waterways.

Hi Digirame, Thank You.

The Bird ID is an Oystercatcher, Scientific name: Haematopus ostralegus.

I've learnt something about them today. Why I saw them inland as they are a shore bird along most of our coasts.

Quote from RSPB. "Because it eats cockles, the population is vulnerable if cockle beds are overexploited. They breed on almost all UK coasts. During the last 50 years, more birds have started breeding inland."

I too was suprised to see the Crocus flowers, it's been fairly mild these last couple of weeks though.

Re: Waterways.

Hi Dunlin, Thank You.

I was suprised at seeing them inland although according to RSPB they have been coming inland to breed for the past 50 years due to the overexploited cockle beds.

Here in Quebec province, Canada. But don’t tell…

There was a story in the news a couple years ago. A mother had her house on the shore of Ottawa River, Quebec, while her daughter had a house on the other side of the river, Ontario side.

The daughter was paying $2,000 more per year in electricity than the mother. Same river, same area. Different provinces.

Static fire - SpaceX
2

This was shot from about 5 miles away (Padre Island Rd).  had just missed the static fire by about 5 minutes.  Shot with a T6S and a 75-300 USM  (so 1.4) crop factor figured in.  hand held using a fence post for stabilization.  Have some work to do on exposure/fstop at that distance, and i think focus (even with 1 focus point) could be improved.  may have to try an adapted lens from my film days (Better glass)

North of Scotland! Do the lakes freeze there in winter?

Re: Static fire - SpaceX

That's neat.  It could be sharper with better glass, but there may be particulates in the air that can cause the image to be that way.

Welcome to our group.  I see that you are a new member with three posts.

A better telephoto lens that's inexpensive is the Canon 55-250mm lens.  Another inexpensive lens that is good is the Tamron 70-300mm lens (from what I hear). Check the lens reviews to make sure you are getting the right model that is recommended.

Re: How many can you count?

Hi benjilafouine,

Many (Lakes\Lochs) freeze over in Scotland although less than they used to with climate change. One I found in the archives below.

#OnThisDay 1979: Two and a half thousands curlers convened on the Lake of Menteith in Scotland for the Bonspiel.

This link should work.

Taken down the barrel of a paper towel tube.

Before I moved to where I am currently living, I never knew that robins flocked.

I always thought they were solitary birds.

There must be about 20 of them in the front yard.
