New Camera Options: X-T3 for $650 USD or X-T5 for $1450 USD?

Someone in my local camera club wants to move into Fujifilm and asked my advice about a camera body. The person shoots a DSLR, Canon I believe, and would like to stay with a similar body style, so I suggested an X-T5 might be a good choice.

I checked on availability with a contact I have at a camera company and was told that a silver X-T5 is available on discount through Presidents Day for $1450 USD delivered, and that a black X-T3 (ww version) is on clearance for about $650 USD delivered. Both cameras are brand new USA versions.

I have owned a couple of X-T3 cameras and know they are solid, but the X-T3 was released almost five years ago, so I am not sure if I should recommend that camera over the more expensive X-T5. The $800 price difference makes me want to recommend the X-T3, but maybe the X-T5 features and image quality are worth the extra cost. I have not used an X-T5, nor seen one in person, so if someone who has experience using both cameras would be willing to offer insight it would be appreciated.

Can’t go wrong either way really.

X-T5 is the best X-T camera to date but it’s not double the price better if you are on a tight budget.

Really depends on how they will be used.

You need to decide if the IBIS and the better AF worth the price difference or not. (The 26vs40 mpixel difference is secondary.)

I am a X-T3 user and even with sensor stabilization, weight reduction, extra megapixels and some video features, the X-T5, for again that price, is not worth an upgrade for me. It even downgraded the pre-shot ES mode frame rate which I use a lot.

These deals are also exactly the reason why upgrading is not financially beneficial. If I were to sell the X-T3 secondhand, it will have to compete with new X-T3 at a price you otherwise would have sold your used one for. You can barely get rid of your old model at €500. If you consider this, the X-T3 deal looks more attractive at 90% of the features of the X-T5. And if you want 98% of the features, get an X-T4 deal!

Damn $650 for a brand new XT3??? I don't even see any (used) XT3 close to that price. That's a really darn good deal.

I would not pay $800 more for a XT5. No way Jose. But that's just me. In the end is all a personal choice

I would have to revisit much newer and updated reviews, but as far as I'm informed the T5 AF is not that great.

100% agree with you, i bought a used mint XT4 with brand new battery grip, and 3 batteries for $1150, sold the grip for $170 and the bracket for $25 so effectively got the XT4 for $950. No way XT5, even a used one for around $1500 is worth the difference

I’ve just replaced my T3 with a T5, and AF is definitely better on the T5.

Just for information purposes, in what way is the T5 AF better?

Thanks.

More reliable face detection - this is quite important to me. (I had no opportunity yet to test the new subject detection modes.)

You've been informed incorrectly:) xt3 is good, but xt5 af is a step up.

I posted on the face detection during skiing last night. It rocks. More shots today with near 100% hit rate. Really not sure what all the whining on the internet is about.

Easy:

1. Want IBIS and 40 mpx? X-T5.

2. No to the above? X-T3.

3. IBIS but no 40 mpx? X-T4.

Pardon my asking, but wouldn't the X-H2 (or X-H1 as the budget option) be the more logical choice for a Canon DSLR user who wants a similar body style?

The logical choice would be Canon mirrorless.

Also consider the X-H1,  2 weeks ago I got a mint <200 click model for $725.  I have been having so much fun with it.  I have a X100v as well.  Both Fuji’s are getting me out of the house a ton for landscape/street.  I have large hands,  I find the X-H1 fits me perfectly with a L-Bracket.

I strictly wanted a camera that for landscape/street that I could post SOOC shots and its fitting that bill perfectly.

I will save the client paid work for the R6.

I passed along information about both cameras to the person in my camera club. The cameras are at one of the US military exchanges, which is offering discounts, including coupons, through today. The person I am helping is able to buy at the site; so perhaps a purchase will be made today. If I didn't already have too many camera bodies, I would have considered buying one as well. I checked the inventory a few minutes ago, and there was one silver X-T5 and two black X-T3 cameras in stock.
