** Weekly Pentax Photo Thread 18 - 24 February **

*Please reply to this original post so that your post starts a new section and change the title to reflect the subject of your image/s.

*Keep it fresh, photographs you took or post-processed this week.

*If you can provide details on the subject, story, camera, settings and processing, that would be great for people reviewing the images.

*We have more than enough threads about gear, so let's have some photos showing what you and your Pentax camera or lenses can do. Beginner or pro, doesn't matter, this thread is about enjoying photography and perhaps receiving constructive feedback

Sunday morning walk
2

all K3III, darktable, 55-300 PLM

the two bussard shots are cropped, the highland cattle more or less "as is"

I still fight with getting the images as sharp as I would like them to be - but maybe I do expect too much.

The first bird with 1/100 sec - okay, not the best idea for full zoom, so I tried again with higher ISO. But still it looks somewhat "soft" to me (even though I tried to tweak it in darktable)

Re: Sunday morning walk

The animals are beautiful!

I would say some movement blur in #1 and the #2 a bit front-focused, but if you don't pixel peep they're very great.

I have to get back to morning walks... Thanks for sharing

yeah, movement blur I would expect (as said - 1/100 - handheld, cold, nothing to stablizie myself...)

I tried before to tackle the front/back focus issue but resigned a little bit as i feel it not to be excatly consistent over the zoom range - and hard to decide for a small target 10meters away to start with. Maybe I should try to put an adjustment into a user setup and only use it for "long distance shots"; but I'm not sure if this is would even work.

Well either it requires AF fine tuning either it's the "wrong" focus point that was selected ?

I know that in auto AF it tends to focus on closest element, like the fence here. When subject is relatively small in the frame I prefer to use AF zone or whatever the name (the smaller box that I move over the subject if needed). Or even smaller if it keeps being inconsistent ?

I also tend to take an absurd amount of duplicate photos "just in case" then select the sharpest ones, but it's a really bad habit (and often the first one is the best anyway...)

Afternoon walk
3

Over the last week or so I have been walking over to the wetlands near my house each afternoon. The wetlands start about 100 metres from my house. The wetlands consist of a number of ponds that filter the storm water before discharging into the local creek. It is part of Toomuc Creek linear reserve which is about 2 km of parkland either side of the creek.

Around 100 species of birds have been recorded along the reserve. some are resident all year, some are visistors and some ,like the wedge tailed eagles are just flying over.

I have been walking to one small spot most afternoons lately to photograph the small birds.

thiThis is a view of the small are I visit.

A view of the wetlands.

This is the small section I walk to.

Grey Fantails, Superb Fairy wrens, Brown Thornbills. Spotted Pardalotes,

are amongst the birds found here.

Here are the birds

Female Superb Fairy Wren. size is about 14cm

Brown Thornbill size about 10cm

Grey Fantail size about 15 cm and 9 grams

the grey fantails , especially the young ones, don't take much notice of me at all. Often flying just over my head the catch insects.

White plumed honeyeater.

there are othe small birds in the dense cover that I have't been able to photograph yet.  One day they might come to my side of the scrub and reads.

Lovely photo ! Like the scene of a theater, waiting for the actor.

Maybe a new "lonely bench" specific thread would be welcomed ?

I believe that the access to the water was originally created by the beavers, who are still allowed to live there, and is now also used by bathers in the summer. Therefore, no trimming of the reeds was necessary.

I've recently discovered this place and I'm already excited to see how it changes with the seasons.

I don't know if all the "lonely bench" photos haven't already been taken by Pentax users.

After all, it's a subject that doesn't move and therefore doesn't cause autofocus discussions

On the other hand, I wouldn't have taken and posted this photo if I didn't remember the great and inspiring "lonely bench" threads.

Kind regards
Anton
