hey ho

hey ho.

Boast like that should have a few samples or a link or something.

I have no links as have no website or insta etc, but link me a couple of her shots you'd like me to post a comparable with and I'd be happy to do so. I had no intention to be boasting I just write very matter of factly.... I talk like it to and it can be difficult, but it's just how my mind works I kind of 'say what I see' and have no agendas

Well, to be blunt, I guess I've never viewed what's shared here as any sort of a competition.

Neither have I

This forum is a great place to share your work, techniques, etc.

That's how I see it

And, when it comes to photography, "as good or better" is highly subjective and very much a matter of opinion and individual taste.

Certainly is.

Then simply let your work speak for itself. Your comments came across to me as boasting, whether that was intentional or not. As the saying goes... the proof is in the pudding

Jerry, I agree with you. However, you have unfortunately used the increasingly common [these days] misquote of the saying, which has always been…

Apart from the X70 and XF10, and—if you include them—the seven small-sensor X cameras 😉

Mea culpa.  I learn something every day.

It really is more about how/what you photograph than some generic status as The Best Camera.

For example, if we imagine a photographer who prefers to shoot only at 23mm, never needs an aperture larger than f/2, frequently needs to use very short shutter speeds with electronic flash, often needs to apply a particular ND for somewhat narrower DOF in bright conditions, and who likes the look of the X100v...

... that's the camera.

However, if the photographer will want a different focal length, a larger maximum aperture, wants to maintain the ability to stick a zoom on the camera, does't regard OVF as necessary, generally shoots w/o flash (and is fine with "normal" shutter speeds in those cases), and likes a very small camera body...

... the XE models can be a better choice.

Keep in mind that no camera is ever "perfect," and there will always be situations in which something different could be better. But we can't carry all gear, all the time — so we choose the thing that works best for the photography we'll do.

Having used the XE line, the X100 line, the Pro line, and now the XT5... the question is not "Which is The Very Best Camera Ever," but which camera aligns best with what I do.

On a different note, after coming back here to DPR recently, after a long absence, I'm struck by how few people trim quotes in their replies. I sometimes see quote streams that are 4, 5, 6, and more quotes deep, with the deepest levels being barely relevant to the most recent replies.

By the way, I'm not referring to the post I'm replying to here, but to others in the thread.

Is this a DPR tradition?

So i'm wondering why not just buy a used xe2 or 3 and a 23f2 or 1.4 for the same or less than what these fixed lens cameras are going for?

There a lots of reason why the X100V is better. For me, it's the onboard flash...

And of course the built in ND filter for shooting f2 in bright conditions. It really is a whole camera bag in a tiny package.

For me the X100would be perfect if the lens were 1.4 for shallower DOF. I wouldn't mind it being a bit bigger.

No, it’s not a tradition, but instead, simply a matter of some folks simply not taking the time to edit the post down to the point where they only leave what is directly relevant to what’s being posted. It’s quicker and easier to simply hit reply, type in a response, and hit the send button. Editing it down takes time and effort, and not everyone necessarily feels the need to do that. I suppose I might be guilty of that at times as well, but I do make an effort as much as possible to eliminate a lot of back chatter and only leave the parts of the post that are relevant to whatever response I might be making.

None of this is a hard and fast rule… it’s simply good posting practice, and something worth taking a bit of extra time to do IMHO.  Glad you pointed it out.

Ok, so I've gone through her entire portfolio that was shared in the first post.

She is a perfectly adequate street photographer, but she hardly qualifies as elite.

Just look at the Hasidic series in Williamsburg - she is distant, or shooting from behind, and there is no sense of connection to anything that shows who or what that community is about.

Yes, people that speak this way in real life are socially not looked upon favorably, as they lack the subtlety of social norms.

Geez...all this discussion about two photographers stating the reasons they like Fuji equipment. There have been comments about how any camera can be used for street photography. Well isn't this stating the obvious CPT OBVIOUS? Of course any camera can be used for street photography but the point of the video is why these photographers prefer Fuji over cameras they were using. Then it was noted that this was only a "sales job" of full of "BS". Actually the comments made mirrored my own decision to move to Fuji after 40 years of shooting Nikons. I would make like comments if I made a video.

My Fuji journey started the with the purchase of a X100F subsequently I bought the XPro3 and XE4. Different cameras for different purposes but then there was a debate about what camera is best for "street photography". Isn't this a personal preference depending on the needs of the photographer and this is what the two photographers were discussing. Each used equipment that suited there needs. I choose what camera and lenses are best for the shooting situation whether it is the X100F, XE4 or XPro3 or the f/2 lenses or the fast primes. Sometimes I choose my small Nikon Coolpix A if I want to go ultra small. There may be some some shooting situations that I may choose my Nikon D810. Again...it is my preferences just like the two photographers express their preferences I do not understand all the debate that has come as a result of the original post.
