fp + M42 Chinon 55/1.4
10

I tested M42 Chinon 55/1.4 (multicoated one) with fp.

These Chinons often have balsam separation (seems like a common issue with this model) so it partially affects bokeh lights, otherwise images are good.

Quite a classic bokeh "swirl" here and there ... balsam separation or lens design?

Re: fp + M42 Chinon 55/1.4

The swirl is by design. It's the same as any other Tomioka 55/1.4 lens.

You can see balsam separation effect on the bokeh circles here:

Inside each bokeh circle there is small black outline. Its shape is exactly how balsam separation line goes inside the lens. What's interesting, the bigger the bokeh circle, the less effect is observed. When circles are small, the defect is much more noticeable, it becomes more "focused".

Thanks. Perhaps not unlike the Helios M42 55mm or the original Zeiss design.

Interesting indeed ...
