Some good images. My first contact with Fuji X was also around 2012/13, also with X-E1 and 18-55; I was in Abu Dhabi airport and got a great deal on that kit. At the time, I was transitioning from DSLRs, and trying various ML options. Fuji X systems was already great for me at the time, apart from too much noise in long exposures, something I do a lot.

XE, XT, XPRO, tried all types of cameras. At the end of the day, I have settled with the XT series: robust, dependable, no fuss photography.

Did you upgrade because of new features? You know you could shoot Salema with an X-E1, right?? πŸ˜‰

Well, after trying Fuji back then, I used Sony A7 until 2018, when I returned to the X system. Then, the sensor was good enough for me - still not on par with Sony (less malleable files, less headroom in the highlights) but good enough for sure. I always preferred the Fuji ergonomics and operational usage. I prefer the increased robustness of the XT series over the XE series.

A couple of shots with X-E1 from 2013.

600 seconds.

Excellent shots! 600 seconds you would have done using a timer? YOu can now of course do an automatic shutter "speed" of up to 15 minutes quite something where a lot of current cameras only allow for 30 seconds ...

Since taking photography seriously in about 2015 I've had a D5300, 5DII, X-100-T, SL1, SL2, X-T2...

Can't say the photos are much different in terms of IQ in all honesty but will say the X-T2 is my favourite in terms of handling and the SL2 and X-T2 were hands down the best for JPEG SOOC shooting and again Canon and Fuji best for APSC lens selection with Fuji being better but also more expensive, but a better selection for sure.

So the X-T2 is my bestie but not really for camera IQ only handling and lenses

I recently went through my back catalogue and found some decent but badly composed images where I just hadn't time to get close enough (I mostly use a 23mm on APSC) but the new LR has this enhance details feature and I thought I'd give it 'a spin.'

I thought it would be naff to be honest but I got this from a 24mp image that when cropped was tiny like maybe 900x800 or something at 200dpi lol.  It is a HUGE crop

LR enhance details turned it into a TIFF andf then ran it through SEFX PRO2 in CS6 and saved as 23mp file with 15MB at I think 250 DPI!

This makes the case I guess for more MP and the new sensors but I rarely shoot that bad usually that I need mega crops so in the meantime until they come down a lot in price LR works, haven't tried with colour yet

Anyhow bit of a ramble there but sounds like you've been enjoying your photography which is the main thing!

Thanks. 600 seconds I made with an external wired trigger (from JJC?), those that have a screen.

I have photos taken with a Panasonic G1 from cave man days. Nice pictures taken on nice summer days.  They actually compare well with pictures from my newish modern cameras.

Totally! On a sunny day and at f5.6 most cameras and lenses of any type become literally equal (except of course largest possible print sizes.)

From a strictly financial consideration, the answer is no it was not worth it. It's not for any of us. I've used a bunch of cameras from every manufacturer and every format except digital medium format. I still have a bunch of older digital cameras and I've completely stopped going down the upgrade path. There are still some lenses I would like to own but digital cameras have been more than good enough for many years now. I still have the XT-1 and am delighted with the images it gives me, as I am with the other cameras I use, none of which would be considered new. When I retire from my career in a few years I might treat myself to something new but not before then.
