Sigma fp rotary dial bug

I rarely use my Sigma fp so it's basically like new and nothing could have worn mechanically up to now.

But the dial on the back of the camera suddenly started to behave erratically. Instead of changing the value up it could randomly change it down, and vice versa.

I wonder if someone has met this problem, and maybe there is some way to fix it without sending the camera to repair.

I'm thinking about maybe injecting a small drop of 99.7% isopropyl alcohol under the wheel to clean it from the inside, could it be harmful?

This dial was a disappointment from the start. It is so flimsy and cheap and rotates too easily.

Just fast rotate it a few times it should clean oxidation or dirt

It's like the dials on the dp Q, with the camera turned off spin the dial quickly a few times and it will clear off any oxidisation which happens from lack of use or,maybe, as a result of moisture from the fingers getting in there.

I thought the fp was supposed to be weather sealed. AmI wrong about this?

Why would there be oxidation? Wouldn't the contacts be gold plated?

As suggested by Victor and Ceistinne, several quick rotations while depressing the wheel did the job. Seems to be working ok now. Thanks much!

This is a bug that Sigma should really fix. Do any Sigma camera with a rotary dial exist that doesn't eventually develop this problem?

Which may be why they changed it for the fp L. Mine did the same, so instead of having it repaired I opted for the dial conversion service:
