600D metering settings

Hello, I‘m trying to work out the best metering to have on a Canon 600d for general every day social- images regards spot-general-average. I know given time and lots of taking images I will get there. I was hoping that someone may able to advise me on the settings they use. Thanks

DK FYN,

Most of the time, you'll probably want to use Evaluative metering. It meters across the whole scene and tries to balance out an average.

If you've got a strongly backlit scene, you might want to change over to spot metering, or center weighted average to try to meter for that part of the scene you want to emphasize the most.

Do you know how to change the metering settings?

I did a quick Google search on metering Canon 600D and there are several tutorials.

The T3i is a good camera, I think.

Hello, I was wondering if you could give me some advice on the Picture Style settings that I could use to get the best image results on my camera.

I shoot mostly landscapes and people-groups-social.

At the moment in landscapes I have settings 5-0-0-0, and in my standard setting I have 3-0-0-0.

Any advice would helpful to produce a nice looking out of camera image. Thank You

DKFYN,

I don't really use the Picture Style settings much. I think I've only used the Grainy Black and White a cople of times.

Mostly I use Aperture Priority (the Av) mode and Auto ISO for still pictures and let the camera work out the shutter speed and ISO.

I know that the camera will choose a shutter speed at around twice the focal length, which enough to handle camera shake.

In shots where the subject is moving, I might choose Shutter Priority (the Tv) mode and let the camera work out the aperture.

You might take several shots in a row in your Picture Style and change the setting  slightly each time and see how you like the results.

Tom,

It just hit me. You were asking about Picture Style. For some reason, I thought you were asking about the Special Scene (SCN) mode.

For the most part, I just leave my camera in the Standard Picture Style. I couldn't see any real difference between that and Landscape.

From time to time, I like to take black and white photos, so I'll switch it over to M for Monochrome.
