Anyone here tried an Insta360 underwater?

I just got this little 360 degree camera, mainly for my motorcycle.   But it seems intriguing to use underwater as well, so I've ordered a little dive case for it.  ($99).

I'm thinking of taking it to Truk with me in a couple of weeks, if I have the luggage space.  But I've not even used it yet...

Re: Anyone here tried an Insta360 underwater?

I remain so bad at basic video, I don't know how I would be able to add this one in.   But I think it has the potential for more immersive images than your 15mm rectalinear lens can do.   But better than what the 8mm fisheye can do?   I wonder.

If it takes the standard gopro mount, you can easily put it on a stalk on top of the nauticam housing and use it when you get in the cargo holds.   Right at the entrance I image will give best result.   You likely would need a focus light to light up the areas in the shadow in front of you.

The footage I've seen of the Gopro Max underwater was pretty underwhelming.  My suspicion would be that the Insta360 would be similar.   You could scour youtube for some insights.

I've personally only used the Hero 10 underwater, which of course works as advertised.

Make sure to use the "dive case" (I assume that is the case you are referring to) If you bring it underwater. Without it the stitching of the 360 image is messed up and having unusable footage from your onetime experience just sucks so bad.

I took it, but didn't try it underwater

Just back from Truk.   For me, I like to combine diving and photography with the idea of photography first, diving second.   That sort of works when the equipment is sorted and the diving is easy.

Of course in the real world, diving better come first, especially at a place like Truk when diving single tanks.   I got the dive housing late and never tested it, and so I never took the camera underwater.  However, I did take several test videos with the camera, and it was a lot of fun.  In at least one I had the dive housing on in the dive boat to keep it from getting splashed.  Above water, the camera is a lot of fun and seems unique to me.  I can have both me in the video and any subject around me.  It's almost like having a drone nearby.

It would have needed to be combined with some sort of lighting inside the shipwrecks, and that's kind of problematic on a 360 degree camera.
