If this is your first camera it should work fine for what your doing. Now you might need longer lenses. Your EF-S 18-55mm F/3.5-5.6 III lens simply won't be long enough.

Welcome first time poster.

I don't believe the Canon 4000D has a self-cleaning sensor unit.  You might want to look at other models that have them like the Canon T3i (600D) camera.

These older cameras are good for sport and portrait photography, but are not the best.  The Canon 4000D is an entry level model.  You have weigh how much you are willing to spend versus the value you will receive.

I would definitely look around for something better.

7D

A used 7D would be the same price or cheaper than a 4000D, and is a much better choice for sports, largely due to the better AF system and more FPS.

It's also a nicer camera overall, if you don't mind the extra weight.

I was using a 7D until recently - a fine camera, but simply too heavy for my amateur usage.

I found even entry-level dslrs to be very fast. I shot lots of action with a Rebel SL1. I can recommend the 18-135 IS USM, which has a very fast autofocusing system, much better than the older STM version.
