Working on my work flow

I use Lightroom on a Mac.  My current work flow is to remove the card from the camera and put it into a card reader and let LR move the files to where it wants to.  So far, I've just used the CF card so it's just one card.  I have the EOS R5 and the EOS R5C and I'd like roughly the same workflow for both cameras.

I have a few pain points:

  1. I shoot raw video often and LR does not import the CRM files.  Thus I have to move them from the card or camera to my disk by hand.
  2. I'm going to try recording RAW video to the CF card and the matching MP4 to the SD card which implies that now I will need to remove and fiddle around with two cards per camera.

I just now installed (again) Canon's EOS Utility 3 version 3.16.1.3 and got it working with the R5.  I assume it will also work with the R5C.  I'll try it later this week probably just to make sure.  By the way, if you go to the Canon support site and pick Ventura as your OS, the EOS Utility will not be shown.  I see on here threads talking about having problems with the EOS Utility 3 and Ventura.  It is now working for me -- well, it worked once. 🤣

I guess I can get use to it but it seems a bit touchy.  I had to uninstall it and reinstall it and the UI is ok but not great.  I want to just download the images (for now).  I'll grant that the other stuff is really neat but it isn't what I need right now.

I have Canon's Camera Connect app on my iPhone but it seems extremely flaky so it is ok for very occasional plop an image from the camera to the iPhone while in the field type of thing but it doesn't seem to be able to be part of a regular work flow.

And, I've tried to get the FTP stuff to work but never succeeded.  By default, the Mac has no FTP server but I tried going to an FTP server that I have in my house but it was never happy.  Given it was rather frustrating and fragile, that persuaded me that the FTP transfer would not stand up to regular use.

I with I could just plug in the camera and have the cards show up on my Desktop.  Or even better a script-able tool.  Or, even better yet, have LR recognize the camera when its plugged in.

So... all this to ask what are others doing for their work flow to offload images to their editor?  Are there tools that can help out with these problems?
