Olympus 14-42 f3.5-5.6 sometimes under exposing.

This lens is paired with my E-M1 Mk2. Body is firmware v3.6, lens is v1.1

When the camera is turned on when the lens is extended, sometimes, there is a buzz and the image is very dark and will underexpose. This seems to happen if zoomed between 16 and 35mm. When the camera is turned on when the lens is locked then unlocked after "Lens is locked, please extend the lens" is shown, it exposes properly.

Anybody else had this issue?

Sounds like the flex cable is on its way out. Sometimes it bends the right way to still make contact, sometimes it bends the wrong way and contact is broken. It just wears out from zooming and collapsing in and out. It will keep getting worse until the lens stops working entirely. The labour costs of fixing it will be more than the lens is worth.

Thanks. Sounds like it. I may throw $20 for a DIY cable repair.

It's had a good run, original kit lens from my pen e-pl2. Time to upgrade to a used 12-40mm F2.8

It's a fairly easy repair to do and there are some YouTube video's to walk you through it.
