Hiding focus peaking on shutter half-press on X-H2

I think I must be going crazy, and I’d like confirmation or denial from this Forum.

I own an X-H2, which I upgraded to from my X-T4. On my X-T4, I used to shoot frequently in manual focus mode with the focus peaking MF assist turned on. What I remember from that camera is that, when I half-pressed the shutter, the focus peaking would turn off so you could see the clear image without the distracting white lines of the focus peaking.

On my X-H2, that doesn’t seem to be the case. When I half press the shutter, I still see the focus peaking lines. Is this a setting I can turn off? Am I misremembering how my X-T4 did this and it’s just always been the case? Did they change the behavior between the X-T4 and X-H2? Any clues?

Don't go crazy over it yet, this looks to be a persistent change from former behaviour. There was an earlier thread on it that didn't come up with a fix of settings to counter it.

The general advice here would be that focus accuracy is better with peaking set to low – and could alleviate some of the intrusiveness maybe?

Thanks for the response, I think this is the answer for now. Hopefully Fuji decides to change it back, or better yet, to make it a setting.

In the meantime, I've done exactly as you've said, turned the peaking to low so it isn't as distracting. Fortunately, the camera AF is so good that I rarely feel the need to use my old BBF method in MF mode
