X-T3 vs T4 vs T5

I had a brief excursion with Fuji back in time, an X-Pro1 whose form factor was the deciding factor along with the expectation the X-Trans sensor might revive the S-CCD, quite a delusion on both as the camera was not just sluggish but also not as durable mechanically wise (and I don't refer to the fact it suddenly died by no apparent reason) and the files were nothing to scream to miracle but it made a nice combo, along with the 35/1.4 I regret having sold (I decided a year later than I already gave away the 18-55 and the 14R), portable, not intrusive and very good for male portraiture, very sharp lens on a cool body.

A few weeks ago I handled an X-T4 which was on a stand in a big electronic store while the T5 carefully stored behind a window glass, needless to say I couldn't resist touching it and nonetheless I am convinced Nikon user the T4 triggered the GAS into me, and there you go with the question:

how do the T3 or T4 stand against the T5, I am not into video, just stills and a prime lens like a FF equivalent of 35-50-85, is it worth looking at a T4 or does a T3 do well enough considering it won't' be the main gear since that place is occupied by FF Nikon gear?

Grazie

Hello, Giovanni_1968

Interesting questions, which as a former Fuji user myself are pertinent, but I do think you're on the wrong forum.

As in this is 'Nikon Z Mirrorless Talk'.

Of course, if your subconscious is suggesting that you abandon Fuji and move to Nikon, as I did, there might be a couple of people around these parts who might possibly be able to help you.

I went from a Fuji X-T3 to a Nikon Z5 - night and day!

(And from a Nikon D500 to a Nikon Z9 - I loved my Fujis but we're now in a different universe.)

Good luck and good light whatever you decide.

Damn, I was on the Fuji forum on my desktop but used the laptop to open the thread and it was on the Z forum, I am at risk of being banned from the whole Nikon community nonetheless the gear list

Ahah, yep, if I had a thousand bucks flying over I think I would invest in something else to make my life a little more comfortable or a weekend somewhere but GAS is hard to cure, any of you immune?

The X-T is a fetish, I love the analog like dials, maybe some day Nikon will finally come with a Zf

If you don`t need in-body-image-stabilization (IBIS), then X-T3.

If you need IBIS and don`t mind the fully-articulating-screen (FAS), then X-T4.

If you need IBIS and either hate FAS or strongly prefer 2-way tilt-screen (like X-T3), then X-T5.

There are more differences, but I`d say those are the most obvious ones (from the usability perspective, at least for me).

To mention some other - X-T5 has higher resolution sensor (40 MP vs 26 MP), both X-T5 and X-T4 have a much higher capacity battery than X-T3 (but carrying a spare works fine for me), X-T5 does not have a battery-grip option, etc.

Re: X-T3 vs T4 vs T5

I have the X-T3 and X-T4, and like them both- sensors are the same, so essentially identical image quality. IBIS doesn't seem to make a big difference on the X-T4, but it has a quieter shutter, so that may be an advantage if you're working in close to your subjects. (The X-T3 is extremely quiet too as well). Extra pixels of the X-T5 won't make any difference unless you're printing larger than 24 x 36 or so.

Re: X-T3 vs T4 vs T5

Hello,

I cannot care less about IBIS or VR, actually I only have one VR lens (which I don't use at all) and the Z6II with IBIS, never used any of the IS features and don't even know how, I only figured how to disable it

I wish Nikon would revive the Df project and give life to a Zf with manual controls to give nostalgic shooters (nostalgic doesn't mean capable as that's an equation many give for granted as those who say "I been shooting film for twenty years..." pretending to be better than digital born photographers) like me a camera which feels more camera and less computer, no, I don't care about twisting a ring to adjust aperture but the ability to adjust settings with knobs and buttons rather than scrolling a menu, that's what still drives me to some day own an X-T series body.

Back to X-T vs X-T, the 4 won't make sense then, 5 of course if a big step ahead but MP wise I am set and already have a bunch of lenses I love, a T3 with the 35 and/or a 50 would do it but no rush, maybe Nikon is working BTS at the Zf

Why not the Zfc then?

It's an APS-C size sensor but so is Fuji.

Just curious.

Because I got used to FullFrame and also because the Zfc has that C which I don't like

Hi there OP,

Some great responses already.

My question is: Did you evaluate the Zfc ? and if you did evaluate it, if so where did it fall short ?

Background:

I have owned the Zfc for about 6 months now, and it’s one of my favourite cameras.

-The AF-C is performance is comparable not if slightly better than my fujifilm (xt3) and sony (a7iii)

-The UI design (menus) is really easy to use

-I can use my old nikon FX lenses (50mm 1.4g/24-70 2.8/35 1.8)

-kit lens is amazingly sharp

-Looks great like the Fujifilm camera

-I can use DxO deepprime to remove noise

I left consumer cameras too long ago to go back to it, the Zac is a nice experiment in style, in my opinion could be seen as an attempt from Nikon to check how much attention a Zf, a full frame one, would gather, same as the Df, put an existing sensor/electronics in a new minimalist body with some extra dials and buttons and voila, the Nikon's poor Fuji X-T.

I don't know which other cameras you own and what you do with them, as much as I'd like to have a small body like that and with those handy/mechanical controls the Zfc can't make it for me.

If for you ibis is  ballast then go x-t3.

As far as I have seen iq improvement from the 40mp sensor is marginal, if any.

Good glass comes first, imho

Buona fortuna

I use the T3 and T4, both excellent cameras for my photography. I got the T4 on an excellent deal, and I don't mind the screen type. In fact, I have used many cameras with the flippy screen, not a problem for me. The screen on the T4 actually spends most of the time on the closed position while I am shooting with it. The shutter on the T4 is smoother than on the T3, reminds me a bit of the one on the X-H1. Also the battery lasts a lot longer.

As for the T3, it's a great option too.

Of course I don't need 40 mpx, so I don't need the T5.
