Tamron 18-300 on Fuji X-S10

This equipment is new to me, having migrated from a Canon 70D with a Canon 70-300. I'm not getting a sharp image on the Fuji at full telephoto, 300 mm. Perhaps one of my settings is off. There is no adaptor between the lens and the body. Should a value be entered for "MOUNT ADAPTOR SETTING"? If so, what? I had it set at 21 mm.

It might be helpful if you posted some examples. This lens is a tad softer at 300mm, but there are some things you can do to ensure you're getting the best results.

  • Make sure you have a shutter speed that's appropriate for that focal length. Even though the lens and body have stabilization, a faster shutter speed will further reduce any effects of shake.
  • Make sure you're a stop or two closed from maximum, if possible.
  • I typically shoot with a sharpness setting of +1 (for JPEGs).
  • Good grip and posture.
  • And of course make sure the lens and any filters are clean.

I have noticed some quirks with the IS on this lens. Sometimes it makes a sudden shift just as I press the shutter button. I haven't found a sure way to reproduce the problem, but it's totally visible in the viewfinder and what I see shows up in the final image. At best, it's not as smooth as Fujifilm lenses, and worst, outright jerky (but rare).

The Mount Adapter Setting is only for manual focus lenses that use an adapter and don't communicate with the camera body. This is so the camera can make the appropriate adjustments while shooting those lenses. You typically set up a profile for each manual lens you attach (up to 6 I think). I have several MF lenses and use this often. It can be a pain to remember to switch the setting when shooting, but the Fujifilm adapter has a direct menu access button on their adapter that makes it easier. You DO NOT need to worry about this setting for your Tamron. It speaks to the camera body just like native X lenses.

A change of stance has improved the sharpness of my long lens shots dramatically. Standing perpendicular to the line of sight I put my left hand on my right shoulder and rest the lens on my left elbow. The suggestions, combined with breathing techniques, using my left eye and pressing the camera into my face make an amazing difference. Thank you.

Some samples at 300mm distance 8m of what one can, expect from the lens  used to shoot minute details

distance 15m

That was a test of the Tamronwith the 40mpx sensor

I don't have the lens, but there was a firmware update late last year. Always a good idea to make sure both camera and lens are running the latest firmware. Tamron is officially supported by Fuji so the update process is the same as with a Fuji lens.

Re: Tamron 18-300 on Fuji X-S10

I have been using this lens as a replacement of the 18-135mm since its launch. The OIs actually VC is not as effective as Fuji OIS so as Randy mentionned at 300mm a good breath and a firm holding are desirable.

But the results are very good to excellent.

Of course at f 6.3 AF needs quite good light. Using the option AF+MF does help for fine tune focusing
