Dutch Gem of a Castle

This gem of a small castle is called "Fraeylemaborg". Yes, you can forget that last part. The oldest parts originated from before 1300 (!), but most is from 1500 and later. Taken with the K-1 and the Zeiss Distagon 21/2.8. That lens never fails.

Nice house and moat... although 'castle' might be a bit of a stretch

Great photo.

Very choice image, nicely uprighted.

I agree it doesn't look as a classical castle, but "borg" means strenghtened castle. In 1500 (rough times) it looked quite different.

Very nice castle (and picture, of course). I just would try to make it brighter. I mean the picture . Maybe I am wrong and the result would be worse...

We live in the Alkmaar region but have fallen in love with the Groningen area "De Graanrepubliek" where we often book a B&B. Can you tell me where this is? Looks promising for our next visit!

Awesome shot by the way (and nice to see straightened verticals on an architecture shot like this)!

It is indeed in Slochteren in Groningen Mike.

Groningen is quite special, as in flat and empty😉
