We regularly go on cruises in Europe, so that means lots of stops at many amazing destinations.

For the past few years I've only taken an RX100. It's always set on auto as many images are fleeting so you need to be ready to grab something. If it's your regular camera you soon get used to the menus and buttons. IQ is outstanding for such a small sensor, I'm not going to sell any and reasonable sized prints are stunning. With its sensor size depth of field is great, spot on for those pictures of Santorini or Amalfi.

The camera is small and compact and attracts no attention, it fits in a pocket or small bag. There are always people who want to deprive you of your belongings so a larger camera attracts attention and is often a bind to carry.

Your choice but unless you want large prints or fancy trying to sell images the little Sony is unbeatable, don't forget it's all about the image content.

I have sometimes just taken my Canon G7XII (similar to Sony RX100 series) on such trips, and had some great results. It has a 24-100 (FF equivalent) F1.8-2.8 zoom (so capable of decently shallow DOF), and good  1 inch sensor. The main thing that I find lacking when I use it these days is the amazingly fast AF of my mirrorless ILCs, but the AF is perfectly serviceable for most things. And DXO Photolab has given the IQ quite a boost. If you want something really small and light, but still more capable than a phone (for most things), one of these 1 inch sensor cameras could be a good choice.

Left out...

Edited down and took this out.  With a fixed lens camera, you can't swap wider and may not be able to use an auxiliary "screw-on" lens.  This may lead to stitching or panorama functions.

my traveling setup is the M6II, with 32mm and 18-200mm M lenses. Smaller than the R10, but still not pocketable.

For me, the M6ii + 18-150 is the perfect travel companion. Very capable, very compact (much moreso than the R10). Great controls and menu, and the tilt screen is ultra-fast. Shoot RAW + DxO and you’ve got indoors covered too!

Agreed. Wondering if R50 + 18-150 will be reasonable replacement. Sadly fewer controls and less MP...

One some trips in addition to M6II I also brought along my very pocketable Panasonic ZS80, in case there are days where you just need to go to 720mm. With a smaller sensor, the results aren't as clean as the other options here, but since it does RAW there is some opportunity for post-processing.

iPhone 14 Pro (Max).

Dedicated cameras are a burden on vacation.

I sort of agree for pure scenery. But framing without a viewfinder is difficult. Also, the appearance can often be too HDR, lacking contrast. The biggest negative is that there is no flash, so that when photographing co-travellers against a beautiful scene, the person is underexposed. Or of the person is illuminated by sun, there are harsh shadows

Well, here is what I finally did.  I returned my R10 because I decided that I didn’t want to have even that size camera on the trip. And, for when I’m not traveling my R5 and R7 are all I need.  I recently sold my G7XII, when I thought I was going to use the R10 for the trip.  So, after researching the Sony RX100vii, the G5XII and the G7XIII…drum roll…B&H had the G7XIII for $50 off = $699, so I ordered it. I always liked the G7XII and the image quality was very good.  And, the mark III is using a Digic 8 processor vs the Digic 7 processor on the mark II. This should make it a little faster and a more capable camera.  Anyway, that’s my story.  Thank everyone for your input, it all did help.
