Ah, it does look like spring. We have another 4 weeks or so before we get any spring-like weather. What's the ID of the red bird? Is that a Northern Cardinal?

Yes it is. By the way your mallard pics are really good!

Re: Talking Head

That's an interesting bird.  What kind is it?  The "talking head" appears pretty sharp to me...looks great.

It's a Redpoll. Here's a side view I posted a while ago:

Wow...that's a neat looking bird.  I like the background with this one too.

Yes, that background was a challenge; bird simply plopped down on a nearby snow pile as we were sitting in our back patio watching our feeders about 30' away. Close shot but completely backlit.

Fill flash saved the day!

Cormorant (Different Angle)
2

The golden sunset was reflected in the cormorant’s blue eye.

After diving down the lake to catch fish, the cormorant was resting quietly on the shore to groom and dry off its feathers.

I like this one better.  I'm "jealous" that you were able to get so close. Everything looks so sharp...great job!

This time you were fortunate the leaves in the background were not there.  Sometimes I'll copy & paste things away like that, if I can do it with it still looking good.  That's often easier when we have the sky as a background.

Thanks, Steve!

I won't use a camera w/o at least a built-in flash. Losing a subject to the murk of backlighting is worse to me than a little flash harshness.

That's a pretty flower.  I like your choice for the background too.

The cat's favorite plush toy is a little stuffed elephant. We find it all over the house.

We just shake our heads.

The cat is attached to the toy, I suppose the same as children who will keep small toys like that until they are ragged and worn out.

This child, yours truly, is guilty as charged.

Canon AE-1 and Canon S30 are still around somewhere.
