Excessive process time for Canon DPP and R6 Mark II cr3 files
1

I am using a Canon R6 Mark II, a MacBook Pro, OS X 10.15.7 (Catalina) and Digital Photo Professional 4.17. It takes 14 seconds to process a 1DX cr2 file. It takes around 3 minutes to process a R6 Mark II cr3 file.

Is anyone else getting these excessive times for R6 Mark II cr3 files??

Maybe you need a bit more HP.

I use a Intel I7 4 core @ 4 ghz

also defrag your drives.

I have no problems with speed.

I'm shooting compressed CR3's and they are taking an awful lot longer than my 5Diii raws. Using an old Dell too, which doesn't help but still.

I've noticed that DPP 4.17 is noticeably slower than DPP 4.10. Which is weird, I've never experienced that before that I remember.  Not sure if it makes a difference that I'm on Windows.

It’s horrifically slow on Macs. I don’t think Canon recompiled for the M1processors.

I have one of the fastest laptops available. I9-12950HX, 64GB Ram, Raid 0 M2 SSD's, RTX 3080TI GPU, etc...

DPP is still super slow!!

In my experience no other raw converter can get the colors as accurate as DPP using the Fine Detail picture style...  I've tried custom profiles in LR but they still are not as accurate.  So I am currently stuck using DPP when I need to actually convert a photo.

I wish Canon would update DPP to be able use GPU's.

OR… give the doggone source code out to Adobe, DxO and other companies who suppprt their customers

Canon has to be working on doing something about DPP rendering inefficiencies!!  I can't believe that they are making all these new cameras, lenses, and raw files that support all the quality enhancing software processing tools, like DLO, ALO, Adj face lighting, Clarity, etc with out addressing the elephant in the room!  The software is super slow!!!  Any day now, they are going to be releasing DPP v 5 that will be GPU optimized, will operate 10X faster, and have even more AI tools!

I hope...

Re: Excessive process time for Canon DPP and R6 Mark II cr3 files

I have given up using DPP for anything but a superficial going over before sending them to another software to use.  I tried it, took over 1 minute to convert to a jpg and almost 2 minutes to convert to tiff.  When I used Nikon equipment and software, to convert to either jpg of tiff took all of about 10 seconds at the most.  I am running a MacBook pro with Big Sur 11.7 with an i7 chip quad core, 16GB ram.  Just cannot put up with something so poorly designed.
