R7 + RF 100-500 at a local wildlife park
28

I went to a local wildlife park called Out of Africa, here in Arizona a couple weeks ago. It was a nice cool and cloudy day, which may have been one reason as to why the animals were quite active and out in the open. The cloudy day kept the light nice and even which allowed for some nice tight "portrait" shots of some of the animals as well.

Overall, and not surprisingly, the R7 and RF 100-500 did a great job. This certainly wasn't something that was going to stress either the camera or lens, but it was great to see how well the images could be cropped in as needed, and the detail that the camera can pull out as well.

I scaled down the shots to a max size of 2000px on the long edge just to help make uploading a bit easier.

All of these were taken with the full electronic shutter, switching between single-point AF or expanded zone with animal eye detection enabled.

Hi Jay,

Wow, these are absolutely beautiful. You've really captured the magic of these majestic animals.... stunning colours, details and poses, and great crops!

Cheers,

Mother of god, that's up there at Camp Verde?  (Thought the background of one of those shots looked kinda central-az-ish)  Driven past a billion times, and even considered road tripping up (only coming from Phoenix) for it but never thought it'd be worthwhile. Suffice it to say, it's now on my visit-soon list.  Fantastic shots

Great shots. I can't believe how sharp and lifelike they are. Great job.

That lion was constantly being harassed by his brother all morning. He would sneak up behind that one and swipe at his rear legs like this;

Yep, Camp Verde! I drive up from Phoenix a couple times a year. They also have a photo workshop that I try to go to once a year up there, gets you in at sunrise and allows you to get right up to any fences when shooting, Worth a look!
