Well, after doing lots of thinking and tweaking RAW files, I came to a sad realization: the X-H1's buffer made the decision for me. I can't count the times I missed the shot, because the camera slowed down, or became unresponsive while clearing the buffer.

In other words, a JPEG image is better than no image at all. I might give RAW files another chance if I decide to upgrade my camera, but for now, it's a no-go for me.

Hi,  similar conclusion here. I take a lot of action photos of polo matches where the run of play extends over many seconds. For the last few years my XT4 was okay,  (set to RAW = Fine), but normally slowed in capturing action towards the end of a shooting sequence.

For reasons I'll not repeat here, I preferred the XT5 over the XH2/S and was aware upon purchase of the buffer limitation. In these situations, like you I shall probably use JPEG only when the season opens here in the UK in April.

Those should clear the buffer at a reasonable speed so if that's not fast enough, I can quite well understand your need for smaller file sizes!

(Myself I never want to give up the flexibility of RAW files anymore, so I lowered the max burst speeds to get longer bursts, before I upgraded).
