Barn Swallows.
1

There's a story to this photo below.

Three days of returning to the same spot and taking photos of the adult Barn Swallow feeding its young, for the first two days they were in leafy bushes. On the third day they were on bare branches and all the knowledge I'd built up over the past two days paid off.

I knew without seeing the adult when she was approaching and about to feed them, also she nearly always had her back to me. This time because of lack of foliage she was side on. I was using the 70D then which delivered 7 frames per second, out of seven frames she was usually in three of them, now thats what I call 'Fast Food'.

The fourth day and they had flown.

I put up other photos of these in 'Show Your Snaps...June 15, 2015'

Because of the length of time I was shooting them and the amount I took this one got away and I had always thought I'd posted it.

Wow...neat...that shows me you had patience.  When taking pictures of birds like that, I would often imagine where I thought they would be in the future.  When they did land in the right spot, I would be ready.  We have only seconds before they fly off or do something different.

Wood Duck

Today under sunny skies I went out looking for ducks. Here's one I liked of a wood duck.  I hope you like it too.  I got lots of post processing to do.  I found lots of ducks.

I went through my “cloud” albums and came across this photo, created in October 19, 2002, at 5 PM, with a Canon PowerShot S30 that had a glorious 1/1.8” 3MP 2048x1536 4:3 sensor.

Wood Duck - Thanks

Thanks.  With the sunshine, the reflections and colors were what made it likeable for me.

Ah yes, looks great.  At that time I was probably using my Kodak DX3900 which had 3.1 megapixels.  That reminds me of vacation. I can't wait to go to sunny California again.

Hi Digirame,

Great to see the Wood Ducks and the reflections in the water.

Re: Barn Swallows.

Hi Digirame, Thank You.

As you say the speed at which these birds move and where they're going is key to getting the shot you want.

Excellent photo mocha!

A swallow feeding it's young is on my (mental) list of things to photograph. Hopefully I'll get to it this year.

Re: Wood Duck

Cool photo Dig, lovely reflection.

I'm curious, what exactly do you do for your processing?

I suppose a photo can be quite nice even if it was created with a 3 MP P&S in 2002.

Wood Duck - Thanks

Thanks.  I had to squeeze some time in the middle of the week to do this, while we still had some sun.  More cloudy and rainy weather is forecast in the next five days or so.

Wood Duck - Thanks

Thanks.  First, I try to get the exposure perfect (or nearly so) when I'm taking the picture.  Then I use the free IrfanView software to post process them...to straighten, make lighter or darker, or crop...things like that.

As much as I (and we) may complain about the winter cold, clouds, snow and rain, there can be photo opportunities that we might not otherwise see. I was in the car and I saw this dramatic sky. I was able to capture it through the windshield before it faded away. I hope you like....

I visited a butterfly farm today... it was a first for me. Great fun.

If I can remember that butterfly's name, it'll be in the description bar.

Butterflies feeding on fruit

Blue Morpho

Great Mormon

Monarch. I guess this one must be a familiar sight to at least some of you over on the other side of the Atlantic.

This one had partly-transparent wings!

Blue Morpho

The Blue Morpho is much bigger than any of our british butterflies... seeing them flying about was vaguely like watching very-slow small birds.

This is my favourite shot:

The Paper Kite

I hope you enjoyed the pics. I certainly had fun seeing the butterflies.
