Re: Return to the Country Park.

Very nice waterbirds mocha. My favourite is definitely the mandarin duck.

I've seen very little (less than normal) snowdrops around here. I think their season is pretty much over and done with here.

Dramatic Sky - Thanks

Thanks.  I had to snap those quickly from a moving car.  It was one of those moments that I may never see again.  I'm glad that I had my camera ready.

Re: Return to the Country Park.

I like the Tufted Ducks.  I also took a picture of one a few days ago.  We have also ducks similar to the Moorhen...got a few photos of them also.  The Merganser is really good.  I rarely can get that close.  I'm always "jealous" of what you get with the Mandarin ducks.  Ah yes...the snowdrops...we are only starting to get some bulb flowers.  For us, I think the crocus flowers should start blooming in about three weeks.

Beautiful!!! Lately, I have not been able to get that close to the wood ducks.  But I'll keep working at it.

Re: Another Couple

What type of ducks are those?  My guess is that they are both male.

Wow...terrific...that's the beauty we can capture during the winter months.  Yes, it's cold but look at all the photo opportunities we get.

They are mallard, one male (closer), one female (farther).

The lack of colors in a B&W rendition makes it difficult to tell them apart. The male mallard has green head and white-and-brown body whereas the female is light brown overall.

These two were braving the icy slushy water…

Thanks for your kind comments.

Nice!  You got enough depth of field for both of them.  Occasionally I will take pictures of mallard ducks also.

Here's one of a male mallard duck that I took in early January of this year.  It was cloudy and raining some of the time, so the colors are not bright.  But the camera makes it look good enough.

Re: Return to the Country Park.

Hi Dunlin, Thank You.

I've seen a few patches of Snowdrops this past week. Being in the colder North West they're only just emerging for us.

Hi Digirame, Thank You.

The Tufted ducks had come to the first lake this year where normally they're found much further on at Keg Pool, I think the attraction is free titbits from the visiting public.  I've not seen the Goosanders on these lakes before, usually I see them on the River Goyt. The Mandarins have a thriving community here, I think because of the protection the Park gives them they're spreading out onto the Canals and rivers around here.

Hi Ontarian, Thank You.

Because it's on my doorstep I forget about this Country Park at times.
