Dust in lens or in sensor?

Hi i have some problem with X-H2S and brand new 16-55 f/2.8 when i took a photo on f/22 i found on pictures a larg dust spot which disappearing on highest values like f8, f/5.6 etc. I also checked on other lens like 70-300 if its problem with dust on camera sensor but it wasn't. So i think it's probably dust participle inside the lens? Live with that or return it to the shop?

Or is it possible that lens with wider focal unveils dust spot on sensor more than tele lens?

Another question is is it possible that dust can be located between sesnsor and glass which protetcs it.

Please show the following photos of the sky or your monitor with a large white area. It can be out of focus if necessary as long as it's white frame to frame:

16-55 f/2.8 @ f16

70-300 @ f16

Include all EXIF data.  An out of camera jpeg is best yet a RAW converted to jpeg with no processing will do.

It possible that dust can be located between sensor and glass which protects it yet this has nothing to do with what is happening.

Re: Dust in lens or in sensor?

Hi, I'll

make photos at f/16 later and upload here.

Today i was at the shop where i bought lens and we took some photos on x-t4 and spot was also visible.

Right now i uploaded a photo and marked this specyfic spot and some kind of streak which is visible even at f/5.6 at both lenses which i suppose can be on sensor behind glass because blowing and cleaning by sensor swabs didn't help. My camera make only 700 shots and i found this streak only after 100 shots.

Blowing is a waste of time.  Our cameras sensor shake already dose a better job than a blower.  You need to do a wet cleaning. It's easy and safe.

Re: Dust in lens or in sensor?

This streak can be some piece of lint and can be removed by myself?

I tried some wet cleaning and used to it VSGO kit with swabs and liquid but this "streak" is very resistable. Maybe i have to use better liquid?

Re: Dust in lens or in sensor?

Are you using f/22 just to inspect for dust?  Images taken at that aperture are going to be terribly soft due to diffraction. The 16-55 is sharpest at f/2.8-f/4 at all focal lengths is diffraction limited beyond that.

Just to inspect dust.

Yeah this lens is terribly sharp at f2.8-4

There is a good chance that a different liquid will help you with the persistent streak. I'd guess that it only shows in some images as it's so light and small. The dust spot you circled as well as some other very small contaminant (black dot) in the lower right of the photo you posted should come off as well.

I don't know what cleaning fluids are available in Poland. I use these two:

Sensor Clean:

https://visibledust.com/products/sensor-clean-liquid-sensor-cleaning-solution/

Smear Away:

https://visibledust.com/products/smear-away-liquid-sensor-cleaning-solution/

Make shore to use compatible swabs, the Visible Dust green swabs will work with both of the above. They have become rather expensive. Our cameras use the size 1.6x swabs listed here:

https://www.visibledust.com/products.php#cleaning

I've been able to find these products at a number of stores including Amazon.  Use sensor clear first and after a couple of passes if you can't remove the containment then try Smear Away.  I've been cleaning SLR sensors for about 20 years with the Visible Dust products and have not met a spot I could not remove.

Good luck,

Morris

Re: Dust in lens or in sensor?

The 16-55 is the only lens I've used where dirt on the front element could be seen on the images. Just have a look at that.  I always thought this was impossible.  The dirt was plainly visible on the lens.

The two samples show the same contaminants.  It's not a lens issue.  Most of what I see is dust and/or a waxy substance or oil.  I've only seen a line like the one you have one time and that was a whisker from my beard.  A wet cleaning should do the trick.

Good luck,

Morris

I send camera to Fuji service center and they replaced filter on the sensor under warranty.
