Little Dog Big Dog

This past Saturday I was out walking and taking pictures during a partly cloudy day.  We had a few sprinkles, but other than that it wasn't too bad.  Here's a combination I thought was pretty neat.

Photo No. 1 - Little dog....  The dog stopped and temporarily blocked my way.

Photo No. 2 - Big dog....  This is a Great Dane.  The owner was trying to encourage it to move.  It was enormous.  I had to get a picture of it.

Beautiful dog, well illustrated photo for size of him/her.  About the size of a white tail doe deer.

Little Dog Big Dog - Thanks

Thanks.  I was fortunate to get a picture of the Great Dane.  The owner was walking quite fast, but they stopped long enough for me.

Re: Snowy Alley

It's neat for us to see snow where I live.  We rarely get snow in the valleys, a small amount maybe two or three times a year.  Did you open the gate and then decide to not go through the alley?  How much snow did you get?

It was snowing all day and I was wandering through various parts of town as part of my daily walking exercise in the afternoon. I passed by a gated alley and decided to linger and explore some photographic angles. I did not go through the alley.

With a camera, we tend to slow down and pay attention to scenes / objects that most people simply skip. I sometimes get asked, “What’s so special about that?”

Snow accumulation is ~12 inches now, and will peak in mid-February at ~25 inches.

Little Dog Big Dog - Thanks

Thanks.  The little dog turned out to be more gentle that it first appeared and just moved aside for me when I passed.  The Great Dane was very gentle also, but I think that's typical of them.  There was no barking or other aggressive behavior.

Hi Digirame,

That's a super shot of the Great Dane, all she needs is a saddle.

Thanks.  Yes, that dog could be like a pony for small children.  It must be strong too.

Re: It's not Spring just yet!!!

That's a neat looking Muscovy duck.  We have a few of them around here at times.  That's amazing that you found some flowers this time of year.  They are beautiful. Ah, the Coot...yes I took some pictures of some also.  The Mandarin duck is so colorful; I just wish we had more of them here where I live.  That red fungi is very bright.  I haven't seen one like that.

As usual, that's a super set.

Night Time Parade

Here's another Christmas parade I attended at night. I had fun taking these without a flash, by opening up the aperture, using a slow shutter speed, keeping the focal length short and using high ISO's. I hope you like them.

Hi Dunlin, Thank You.

Etherow Country park which is designated a Site of Special Scientific Interest has many waterfowl I've never come across elsewhere, another being the Egyptian Goose below. It was also a place where Mandarin came and settled and the Tufted ducks made it residential.

Re: It's not Spring just yet!!!

Hi Digirame, Thank You.

That's the first time I've seen a Muscovy duck. The flowers suprised me also. That day there was a lot of activity on the lakes the ducks and geese where fighting amongst themselves probably in order to pick this years mate. The Mandarins were also very active.

With the Sun showing itself for a couple of hours and the activity of the birds it did indeed feel like spring.

I've seen Egyptian geese before in London.

Cool photo.
