22mm + 32mm + _____

I’ve been shooting with the EFM 22mm & 32mm lenses on my m200 lately. Super fun to use, with great results. Should I spring for the Sigma 56 1.4? The 22 & 32 are such great lenses… but I’m wondering if the 56 would complete the kit?

Re: 22mm + 32mm + _____

As always it depends on what you shoot. If shoot a lot of portraits then the Sigma 56mm is great. Sometime it is nice to have longer focal length than 32mm for portraits.

It’s indeed more of the same goodness!  I really love the 56 for the times you don’t want to position yourself so close (as with the wider lenses).

OTOH the excellent Sigma 16 is great for group shots and low light events too.  You might need to buy both!!

Happy shopping!

Yes, they are both super. 😃 The M200 too.

Yes. That is also super. 👍 And the Sigma 16 too (as R2D2 just said.)

Indeed, as others have already posted, I can highly recommend the 56mm.

And, additionally, as R2D2 has written, also the 16mm (despite its size, it is great)

Re: 22mm + 32mm + _____

I'd vote for the 56mm. But that's just my preference.

I think the questions to ask are pretty simple:

Do you find the 22mm to be not wide enough often?

Do you find the 32mm to be not long enough often?

Two times yes = get both.

Well, that about covers it!  Both!

Seems like the 56 is a “no-brainer.”

How is the form factor of the 16mm on a small camera like the m200? Was also looking at the 11-22 for wider shots… 🤔

If you need that focal length, and if you love shallow DOF portraits. You can buy a great lens, but if it doesn't fit your needs it's a waste of money, no matter how great it is.

It all depends on your needs. 11-22mm is stabilized, so it's o.k. for non moving subjects and creating a large DOF in low light. The 16mm isn't stabilized, but it has a large aperture, so it's better for moving subjects in low light, and creating a thinner DOF.

I think the 16mm will give a bit more punch to your images, but it's only 16mm.  The 11-22mm gives you a whole range.  You might use your 22mm f/2.0 less often.

don't you have an R6?

I sprung for the RF 85 f2 IS on my RP to get the IS instead of no IS on the 56 -- and so I am able to drag the shutter on the RF 85 vs maintain higher ss on the 56

If you like the focal length of 56mm, the Sigma lens is wonderful in every way. However, if you are not a fan of a prime telephoto lens, I would recommend you to have 55-200 for your telephoto.

I should have said a “no-brainer” for me. 👍

Yes, I own the R6 (that I use with the 16 2.8, 35 1.8, 50 1.8, 85 2, 100-400, and adapted EF 135). The m200 is working out great for me when I want to go small & light. The 22 & 32mm lenses on this camera are awesome. Thought I might be missing something a bit longer, but still small in size. The 56 sounds like it may fit the bill, for me.

How does that compare to the EFS 55-250 IS STM? I have that lens that I still use on my SL1 & 70d, and it’s great!

yes, the 56 is a great lens

but without IS, you'll need to use higher shutter speeds like ss 1/250

For me 1/100 or 1/125 is usually enough to make sharp shots with this lens. And I can go even slower if I shoot short bursts and pick the sharpest shot afterwards.

When it comes to compactness the Sigma 56mm is the best portrait lens option.  And dragging the shutter is gambling.
