Maybe to handle a possible 40mp sensor.

How do we know the X100V lens reworking doesn’t already cater for that?  Fuji were reworking and launching other new lenses around the same time that have also since proven 40mp ready.  The X100V designers probably knew what was coming down the track,

Used X100V may popular again

Didn't worry. If next X100VI lens can't cater 40MP sensor, some consumer can buy used X100V again.

Beginners may prefer high resolution (better number in specifications) regardless sharpness.

It’ll be fine on 40mp.

I'm going to be the contrarian and push outside the box. I would propose these changes....

Sensor stays at 26mp, BUT goes stacked. Lower noise, faster processing, so biased towards quality at higher iso. Most that are using the x100v aren't pushing the envelope to where more megapixels will benefit them. Also reduces temps for video use.

23mm f1.8 - combined with above, allows for greater use at a wider range of lighting conditions.

new processor, taking advantage of better AF system that's being rolled out.

flippy screen

better evf, slightly larger.

options to also do HEIF in addition to jpg.

Slightly move compact.

slightly better flash specs.

Use the same w235 battery as x-t5, longer usage, standardizing on it.

How is this outside the box? All those things you mention are just generic improvements that comes with every new camera. Also stacked sensor makes absolutely no sense for this compact camera.

Good question! If I had confidence that one was coming in the next 3-6 months, I'd sell my X100V at top market dollar right now and stash it away to put towards the new model I am actively considering this, but have a suspicion that the new model may not be announced until the fall and may be available in 2024...just a feeling.  Hmmm....market timing! LOL

How about physical switch that assign SS dials as either actual SS (default settings in X100V) or min SS (new features in X100VI)?

actual SS or min SS

Also stacked sensor makes absolutely no sense for this compact camera.

Stacked sensor bring shutterless only to X100 series, make X100 series more compact/slim.

Re: One more thing

Stacked sensor also improves AF response, as well as allow for larger light wells for the same size sensor - which means less high iso noise.

More noise from stacked sensor

Below article of Fujifilm X-H2s review mentioned more noise from stacked sensor :

https://dpreview.com/reviews/fujifilm-x-h2s-review

"... similar story if we look at base ISO images underexposed and then brightened (as you might when shooting a high-contrast scene). You can see that the X-H2S is noticeably noisier than the X-T4 in the very deepest shadows, and noisier again in E-shutter mode. With less significant pushes, you can see that the X-H2S matches the X-T4 down as far as a +4EV shadow lift, or a +3EV lift in electronic shutter mode.  This essentially matches what we saw with the Nikon Z9's Stacked sensor, compared with the BSI chip in the Z7 II: a very slight increase in read noise as a result of the fast readout being seen as a reduction in usable dynamic range. These differences become slightly larger in the fast burst modes where the camera uses fully electronic shutter..."

But the leaf shutter mechanism isn’t exactly fat…it’s why the camera is already thin with the lens.

Auto digital teleconverter framing

How about X100 series that

  • Same size as X100V
  • Shutterless 26MP stacked BSI-CMOS sensor
  • 4-stop IBIS without shutter shock
  • Auto digital teleconverter framing (powered by subject based auto focus and AI) especially high speed shooting mode - camera crop in on a region of the frame and again follow the subject as they move around: panning and scanning to maintain composition
  • Other computational photography (e.g. Live ND, Live composite, HDR+) can shoot together with above auto digital teleconverter framing feature. In other words: Live ND with digital teleconverter is possible.
